LOL, Obama only won because W. had to compete with Nixon for the votes of Democrats, while Republicans who hated Carter and Clinton hate Obama even more. (For now.)

Sad to see Reagan always getting such accolades, but at least it's only 35%, so you have to think at least SOME people are realizing how awful he was.

Only 33% said he was the worst. The other 67% disagreed.

The Reagan worship shows that if a group of people say something long enough, no matter how absurd, a large portion of the country will believe it.

Quinnipiac intentionally included the poll results from 8 years ago.

Only 28% said Bush was the worst. The other 72% 'disagreed' (in other words, chose another president to say was the worst).

It is interesting to note that the totals very nearly reflect the opinions of the self-described independents. It appears that the D and R samples neutralize each other in a way to look like the independents sample.

By any objective measure, Obama is the worst. He inherited an economic calamity, created as much by his own party, who blocked US energy expansion, as it was created by Bush. Obama has been given $7T to fix the US economy. We have tepid growth rates below the rate of federal borrowing, unsustainable entitlement spending (still), and our automobile policy is incoherent and entirely dependent on EPA CAFE regulations.

He is the least effective president of the post-war era by a wide margin.

I totally get the fact the population tends to more negative on the incumbent relative to predecessors.  But in 2006 Bush II was considered the worst president by 34%.  Now in 2014 Obama is considered the worst president by 33%.  They seem to be comparable and in some sense even worse since Bush II was considered pretty bad by objective factors and even with that bogey there Obama got 33%.

Of course as negative as I am on Obama and I am very negative I still vote Bush II over Obama as worst president.

Dubya promoted the "ownership economy" based on people buying overpriced real estate through predatory lenders. That is unstable and unsupportable, and such doomed us to have the worst economic meltdown since the 1930s.

Energy expansion is a cannibalization of economic resources. Energy is a substitute for labor, and heavy use of energy cuts into job growth.

Americans are not going to buy the gas-guzzling vehicles of the 1970s.

And they rebound 6 years after someone is out of office. Bush's approval rating is higher than it was before the economy even collapsed. Maybe that's what people needed to approve of W's job performance: an economic catastrophe and time to forget.

Right before the Democratic wave of 2006, Democrats cumulatively dominated Republicans in best and worst president polling. Now they have only a slim edge in both and are unlikely to take back the House.

And of course, some of us think that every president since Ford has tried their best and did at least an average job as president.

69% said the best President is from the last 30 years. Idiots. I understand there are Republican partisan hacks picking terrible Republican Presidents, but what's with the 18% for Clinton?

So many Democrats still have a boner for Clinton. This is pretty depressing, I know.

Yeah, I like Clinton, but the revisionism of his years in office is a bit tiresome. Obama is the more effective president, it may take a few more years for people to realize it, but it is the truth.

Might as well have asked, "who's the most recent President you didn't vote for?"

The problem with this is that it simply asks how many people think of each President as "the worst" rather than asking if they think he's good, bad, average, etc.. Obama has the disadvantage of being the sitting President, meaning that those either unhappy with the state of things, or just don't like democratic Presidents, will be quick to latch on to him as "the worst" (the same thing happens with any sitting President, regardless of party, thanks to the partisanship factor). In 10 years, this same poll will probably yield the same result for the current President.

I believe that 33% of Americans think Obama is the worst president. I certainly don't believe that statistic is worth the sensationalist headlines. Isn't that only a little bit higher than the percentage of birthers?

Also, as already pointed out, Dubya and Nixon had to compete for Democratic/left-leaning votes whereas the right wingers had an easy choice.

His ratings are probably so bad because he's the incumbent. Name recognition and all.

Also the JFK numbers are too inflated.

In my opinion, LBJ and Nixon were the worst presidents since WW11.
