During the nomination campaign, Guy's more conservative opponents attempt to smear him as a "RINO" for his socially moderate to liberal stances, but he manages to win the nomination nonetheless, in part due to a split in the conservative vote between the other candidates. In the general election, the governor faces Hillary Clinton, who wins the Democratic nomination in spite of her vulnerabilities against more progressive challengers. Clinton attempts to ride on her husband's coattails, vowing a return to the "peace and prosperity that only the Clintons can bring." ElectionsGuy focuses on economic issues, working to make inroads with minorities, women, and moderates; meanwhile, he attacks Clinton over her email scandal, depicting her as dishonest and out of touch. Guy also depicts himself as the candidate of the "silent majority" (a la Nixon) who reject the extremes of the progressive left and the Tea Party right, pledging to bring unity after decades of partisan division. In the final weeks of the campaign, polling shows the race to be dead even, both nationally and in several crucial swing states. On Election Day, ElectionsGuy's attempts to chip away at the Democratic base pay off, giving him a 337-201 Electoral College victory and a small majority of the popular vote. For the first time, the GOP successfully counters the Democrats' turnout and early voting operation, and many pundits question whether a realignment may be underway.
