... South Carolina!

Or at least, so says a totally arbitrary ranking at some blog I'd never heard of until I read about it on The State website today.

Top 3 are South Carolina. Maine, and North Carolina while the bottom three are California, Minnesota, and Wyoming.

The criteria that were used made sense, but even tho it correctly got the best state at #1, I'll admit they were somewhat arbitrary.

Not surprised by California at all.

The worst Kansas did on any individual measure was 39th, but the best it did on any of them was 17th (googling for the American flag),  which placed Kansas in the bottom three as far as having a worst best.  Only Nebraska (21st in historical landmarks) was worse, and you tied Mississippi (which was also 17th in googling for the American flag).

Wouldn't googling for the american flag be unpatriotic? You shouldn't have to google it, if you were a true patriot.

If you were googling it for use as clip art or with the intention of buying one or more it would be patriotic.

I'm pretty sure South Carolina became permanently barred from ever being #1 in any patriotism-related list after they pulled that stunt back in the 1860s.

There should definitely be a penalty for how much Confederate nostalgia and support there is in the state.

Actually, on the one metric that actually matters, that being funding for veterans, California is ranked 2nd. Who gives a flying  about googling flags or liking something on Facebook? Also, measuring historical sites on a per capita basis is unfair. Of course states like Wyoming which don't have any people are going to be #1 on a per capita basis in everything.

What if you were googling it with the intentions of burning it?

Considering that the majority of those red states are full of the descendants of traitors who still proudly wave a traitor flag, this map is dumb.

The only reason why you need to google a flag is when you don't know how it looks like. Tongue

That's to be expected given how they vote.

Not necessarily.  I have googled a number of flags, mostly with the intent of buying them.  Yes, it's an expensive habit, but not as expensive as actually visiting countries.  When my son was young, I got him a little New York Yankee baseball pail and we have been filling it with flags since he was small.  Every time he visits a new land, we buy a flag there.  Sometimes the flags are very, very expensive.  A Saint Lucia flag costs $17 in Saint Lucia, for example, so we wait till we get back to the land of Amazon.com and Burger King to buy that one.

Yes, once in a while I google a flag in order to remind myself what it looks like, but most of the time if I'm googling a flag, I'm googling it in order to find the cheapest source for purchase.

Maine is a glaring outlier. Although my time in the state supports the findings somewhat...it is a very patriotic state.

Perhaps they are afraid of being annexed by Glorious Nova Scotia?

More likely New Brunswick since they share a land border with them.

To be perfectly honest. . . I actually would want to be toward the bottom of that list. You know, not that these things are scientific or anything, but I took a test on here not long ago about states in which you would best fit in and California was #1.

I don't fly a flag, don't have flag pins, or any patriotic attire mainly because I think it's tacky and I'm not fond of the nationalist attitudes behind it. I think if patriotism were associated with things more positive in my mind, I'd be more "patriotic."

Maine and Kansas are the big standouts.
