2016 - Tommy Thunderson wins in a walk

In a walk, Tommy Thunderson bridged the gap between conservative Tea Party republicans and establishment republicans and won the Republican nomination easily. Meanwhile, Democrats fought over their nomination, and little known Alaska Senator James Florida won the nomination. Florida was considered far too liberal for the General election, and Brendan Miles, the congressman from Lousiana, ran for President. Miles gained momentum toward the end, and his No Labels-esqe ticket overperformed their polls by 10 points. Nevertheless, Thunderson won the election as easily as expected.

Oh, and Enderman was a conservative Republican who ran as Libertarian. Not many people bought it, even as leading Activist Devin Naturae joined the ticket to make it official.

Senator Tommy Thunderson (R-IN)/Governor Theodore James (R-WI) - 40.8%, 377 EV's
Senator James Florida (D-AK)/Senator Carl Cranberry (D-ME) - 33.7%, 153 EV's
Congressman Brendan Miles (I-LA)/Congressman Joseph Carross (I-MA) - 23.2%, 8 Ev's
Congressman Jack Enderman (L-FL)/Activist Devin Naturae (L-NY) - 2.3%, 0 EV's

1936

Four years have passed since the election of Louisiana Governor MilesC56 to the Presidency in the wake of the Great Depression. In spite of a popular perception that he would govern as a populist, anti-Wall Street candidate, MilesC56 has instead cozied up to the moneyed interests he decried on the campaign trail, promoting 'unity between worker and employer' and decrying (and intervening in) strike actions across the country. The economy is slowly beginning a process of recovery, but has largely been held back by the President's unwillingness to engage in long-term deficit spending. Dissident Democrats, fed up with the administration's weak response, are dropping the party in droves. The 1934 Congressional Election saw the election of a number of third-party protest groups, from the Wisconsin Progressives to the Minnesota Farmer-Laborites, and even a few members of Norman Thomas' Socialist Party here or there. Left-leaning Democrats, unable to wrest from the President his nomination on account of the '2/3rds rule' that effectively gives the South a veto over the Democratic nominee, desert the party.

They join with the left-wing protest movements at a grand convention in Chicago to launch a 'new mass party for the working class.' Bringing together the left-wing of the Socialist Party, the Communist Party of the United States of America, the Farmer-Labor Party, and the Progressive Party, they launch in 1936 the American Labor Party and nominate for President an unlikely candidate: Florida Senator Flo, a left-wing Democrat who quickly bolts the party upon winning the nomination. Campaigning on public works to employ the unemployed and recognition of labor unions, the American Labor ticket sought to fundamental up-end American politics and make socialism the order of the day in American life.

The right-wing of the Democratic Party, upset with the "creeping corporatism" of the administration, has also bolted, forming the 'American Liberty League' with the aid of major corporations upset with the strike wave and the timidity of the administration in dealing with enacting "sound money" policies. It has selected Oklahoma state legislator Maxwell as it's candidate for President.

The Republicans, hoping to benefit from the split in the Democratic Party, nominate moderate Kansas Senator Tmthforu94.

Pres. MilesC56 of Louisiana and Vice Pres. bedstuy of New York (Democratic Party): 105 Electoral Votes
Sen. Tmthforu94 of Kansas and Gov. Vosem of Illinois (Republican Party): 330 Electoral Votes
Sen. Flo of Florida and Rep. SomebodyWhoExists of New York (American Labor Party): 85 Electoral Votes
State Rep. Maxwell of Oklahoma and State Rep. Deus Naturae of New York (American Liberty League): 11 Electoral Votes

2016 - Four-Way

Though Hillary Clinton was initially seen as the "inevitable" Democratic nominee, in a stunning upset she was beaten by Miles, the fiery populist Senator from Louisiana. Meanwhile, on the Republican side, the libertarian wing experienced a decisive victory as their champion, Governor Maxwell of Louisiana, won the nomination with support from Sen. Rand Paul and former Governor Gary Johnson.

On the third-party side of affairs, the Green Party nominated Florida activist Flo, and the Socialist Party nominated Kentucky union leader TNF. The Greens and socialists made a gentlemen's agreement to not attack each other, and instead focus on trying to draw votes from the Democrats and Republicans.

On election day, Miles was the decisive winner, his attacks on Maxwell's libertarianism as "freedom for the 1% and only the 1%" resonating with the American people, and his economically-populist message appealing to voters who otherwise would have balloted for TNF or Flo. Nonetheless, the third-party candidates did see success, as both became the first third-party candidates to break 5% of the vote since Ross Perot. Future analysts speculated that a united TNF/Flo ticket would likely have gotten an even larger slice of the popular vote, and may have even won states.

Sen. Miles (D-LA)/Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-MT): 401 EVs, 42.6% PV
Gov. Maxwell (R-LA)/Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY): 137 EVs, 33.5% PV
Union Leader TNF (S-KY)/Activist Stewart Alexander (S-CA): 0 EVs, 11.7% PV
Activist Flo (G-FL)/Dr. Jill Stein (G-MA): 0 EVs, 7.4% PV
