Bush White House lawyer a wife beater, would-be murderer

After giving his wife Mary Margaret a good smackin' around with a metal flashlight in 2010, John Michael Farren has been convicted of attempted murder by a jury in a Connecticut criminal trial, and could be sentenced up to 50 years in prison.

The prosecution painted a grisly picture of the assault, with Farren's now ex-wife claiming he was "squeezing her neck and slamming her head into the floor" while saying he would kill her.

Farren served in the administrations of both George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush in various capacities, including as deputy White House counsel to the second President Bush. He will be sentenced in September.

A lot of people in the Bush administration were horrible, including the Vice President, Secretary of Defense, and just about all the advisors. To use a quote that I heard somewhere today (I think on Smerconish) this is news, but it isn't new.

Yikes. His ex-wife got awarded nearly $30 million last year in a civil suit she filed against him for the same incident.

In fairness, this monster really doesn't say anything about the policies or hiring practices of the Bush Administration (either of them). It shows that someone who o the surface was a consumate professional with strong legal credentials on the surface was a jekyll and hyde like savage underneath it all.

Frankly, somebody turning into a complete SOB like that could've just as easily happened in the Obama Administration, or indeed in any administration.
