Anyone else think that the move from 16 to 24 teams was a bad thing? It's become far less of a tight, no-room-for-error competition and almost makes qualifying redundant if half of the UEFA makes it in.

Of course it's a joke.

Everyone thinks that.

So Germany end up winning. Muller should have gotten a red at the end.

And Portugal are about to lose to Albania in Portugal. Talk about a total disaster team these days.

A shame Armenia couldn't hold on. But very pleasing results from Romania and Albania.

Any predictions for AUT vs. SWE (and SUI vs. ENG) today ?

These are basically the only 2 interesting games today.

Mine: 3-2 Sweden/Austria, 1-1 Switzerland/England

Sweden win and England draw. Probably by Tender's score lines as well. Tongue

Ronaldo wasn't playing yesterday.

Anyway, best possible result for us but I'm hardly hopeful of qualification despite the expansion. We simply aren't very good these days.

You can watch the AUT/SWE game here.

(Currently the Big Bang Theory, if anyone of you is interested how it sounds in German ...)

Starts in ca. 2 hours.

Also: Russia leads Liechtenstein by just 1:0 after 45 minutes.

Well, a 1-1 is not really something to be happy about.

The performance was actually not all too bad, with Austria pressing hard for most of the time until the 60th minute, when the players decided to take a nap for 20 minutes.

But the thing is that despite the midfield providing the passes to the front, we don't have any competent striker who manages to put the ball into the goal, not even when they are 2 meters in front of it (of which we had some chances).

Also, the brutal elbow-check into the face of Alaba by Ibrahimovic (who then turned away and smiled in a "like I care"-manner).

The referee of course didn't see it, otherwise Ibracadabra would have gotten the well-deserved Red Card early in the game ...

There's now only a small chance of rain during the match but it will still be chilly and it's away to a Scandinavian side. Expecting a draw with Norway scoring fairly early.

And we end up winning 2-0. Smiley

A few upsets: Wales conceded against Andorra very early (their first goal in four years) but ended up winning 2-1. Cyprus upset Bosnia. Czech Republic upset The Netherlands.

And Iceland crushed Turkey 3-0! Though at this point I don't know if that counts as an upset anymore, considering how close Iceland came to qualifying for the World Cup.

Ah, yes! That one, too. I saw Iceland went up early but didn't think they'd hang on. Surely, they were playing at home...right?

Yeah, it was in Iceland. In a stadium with 10,000 attendance (i.e. about 3% of the country).

It would be great if Iceland and the Czechs ended up advancing out of the group instead of the horrible Dutch.
