A pity for Serie A but the Portuguese are kept behind us in the coefficient rankings because Sporting didn't advance (only one Portuguese side in the knockout rounds).

Roma are surely a favorite for the Europa League title. I'd love a Napoli-Roma Final. Smiley

Poor Roma. I think everyone in the world who is not a City fan was on their side tonight.

I got a 5€ free bet on William Hill, so I spent it on BATE beating Bilbao today ... Tongue

Quota was 1:11 ... Wink

Well, that would have been too good to be true.

Bilbao won 2-0.

All Italian teams remain in European competition this season. Napoli, Inter and Fiorentina win their EL groups. Torino slipped to runner up after Brugge got a last minute goal against Helsinki to win their group. Sad

Sadly, Roma go in to the Round of 32 as unseeded. They should still go far.

I'm with you on Napoli, but I'm going to stay Roma gets knocked out beforehand. Surely, the draw will tell a little bit more, but they'll probably go to semi's or quarter's.

Wow. You're far more optimistic than I am! We always find a way to flounder in Europa League. It doesn't help that our owner publicly dismisses the tournament. Plus, Italian teams have generally sucked in the competition for the last two decades or so.

I think Roma is better built to go further than Napoli, in all honesty. Whatever the case, the more Italian teams deep in the knockout rounds, the better. We need this. We need some spark. I think it can definitely happen. Three of the four teams won their groups. The other was unlucky not to win theirs. So we're going against the norm for Serie A. We just have to hope we don't get drawn against each other after the Round of 32.

For some reason I'd really like us to draw Arsenal in the Round of 16.

We'd be pretty favored against any side except maybe PSG, but I think Atletico is particularly suited to exploit Arsenal's weaknesses. Also I want something to bug Lief over. Tongue

Red Bull Salzburg will play Villarreal.

That's a hard one.

Not a bad draw for Atleti at all.

Napoli play Trabzonspor. Smiley Good draws for Inter and Roma, too. Torino will probably face some difficulty at Bilbao and Fiorentina are the underdogs against Tottenham.

As for the CL, I'm predicting the following winners:

Chelsea
Barça
Atletico Madrid
Juve
Real Madrid
Bayern
Arsenal
Basel

Three Spanish, two English, one German, one Italian, one Swiss.

I have the same prediction on Phil other than my money being on Porto for the last match.

Yeah, a completely open match but I like Basel's spunk. Good coach, too.

RIP Hereford United (1924-2014)

Presumably we'll be seeing an AFC Hereford United (or whatever) in due course, as is the usual way. There are some... kind of horrifying... photos and stuff relating to the last days of the club here. This is the state of grassroots football in the Year of Our Lord 2014...

I rather dislike Arsenal, but am also excited to see Liverpool fail again.

We were down to Athletic Bilbao 1-0 at the half...and then Antoine Griezmann scores a hat trick in a half hour. Amazing kid.

Kevin Kampl from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund for at least 12 Mio. €

http://sport.orf.at/stories/2222033/2222032

He has evolved extremely in the last 2 years for Salzburg and has become one of the best players. He's also swift as a weasel and good for assists (which got the attention of many big-club scouts).

Salzburg paid 3 million € to get him and will receive at least 12 Mio. € from Dortmund.

Thrilling match. 1-1 entering the second half of extra time. I think this one is going to go to a shoot out...

And as I should have known, Juve score in the first minute of second extra time.
