I was just thinking about Schwan's today because I saw an empty box from there in my garbage.  They come out to my house every two weeks, and I figured that it would be an appropriate topic to submit to the folks here.

Personally, I think it's massive Freedom Food.  A little pricey, but well worth it if you have the money.

Neutral.  Reasonably good food, but it's not merely a little pricey, but pricey.  The only way it makes any sense is if you are a shut-in who is still able to cook, but is unable to go to the store yourself.

Yes, except it's Frozen Direct.  Maybe their prices are more competitive elsewhere, but even compared to a high-end supermarket on equivalent products, at the stores around here you're definitely paying a premium for the home delivery so that it only makes sense if you are unable to go shopping in person yourself. (Or at the price point they charge, if you are unwilling to trust your live-in nanny with the funds needed to do the shopping for you.)

That's pretty useless then since it would be pretty bleak just living on frozen food.  I've found that getting groceries delivered is really nice though.  If you think of it as an investment in your time, it works out.  Cleaning lady, laundry service and grocery delivery save me so much time per week/enables me to waste my time in other ways, it's great.

In other words, my grandmother. Except, she's not really a shut-in, she just lives out in the boonies where the nearest grocery store is 15 minutes away.

We used to buy cookies and ice cream from them, and by far they had the best. But sadly they closed production and factories in Georgia back in 2012, so we've had to go without.

To be fair, a lot of folks who would be willing to pay a price premium to save time not having to go to the grocery store are probably also folks who don't want to take the time to prepare full meals themselves.  Not saying that you or I wouldn't find the prospect bleak ourselves (I certainly have more time than money, and actively enjoy cooking, so it's definitely not for me), but I'm sure it works for plenty of folks.

The only time I'd ever heard of this company is from family folklore; a Schwan truck ran over my mom's dog when she was a kid. Otherwise I didn't even know it still was around.
