Yes (I/O)

Just a side note, don't relate patriotism to right wing "patriot" groups and organizations.

No (R). What have I ever done for this county to qualify as patriotic? I mean, I like the US, consider it my home, treat the flag with respect, and have no problems with the Pledge of Allegiance, but those are just generic respect.

Yes.  And, as a Jewish person, the only reason I'm around today is the good ole' USA.  The towns my great grand parents lived in Russia were completely destroyed.  I've read about one city in particular where my great grandfather lived and the SS just killed every single Jewish man, 11,000 people, in one day during the summer of 1941. America isn't perfect, but I think those of us who would be killed or persecuted elsewhere understand that we shouldn't take it for granted what an incredible privilege it is to live in America.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

One of my ancestors was a Dutch colonist.  Of course I'm a patriot, but I don't put love for country above love for God, family, friends, individuals, or even self.

Well, as someone with large amounts of Irish ancestry, I'll go with the obvious: Hell No (I/O, Sane, Normal, Anti-Dumb).

Oh what?  Were you expecting some sentimental post about how I loved and respected America dearly because the nation was formed in rebellion against the genocidal land stealing bastards who forced my ancestors into generations of poverty, debt slavery, famine, and subhuman status?
Yeah, f*** that.  Why?

Because thus far the story, the tale, the narrative is just going the same old song and dance.  Sure it is nice for us to imagine, to dream that the story of this country is an idealistic one of free men, of free people, of democracy for everyone and everything or whatever.  Instead, just like as it has been for centuries, the story of America is one of mass exploitation and violence perpetuated continually to allow the continued dominance of the Landed Interests (yes, I am doing this bit again) over the common people.  And the very act of "patriotism", the love of the "country" is little more than religious praise of the concept of a the coercive institution of government that allows such a villainous monstrosity to exist.

So yes, on principle alone, a decisive Hell No here.

There's no other country I'd rather live in, so I'd say so.

I have very affectionate feelings toward Italy, and recognize that France is an all right country to live in, but I don't consider myself "patriotic" for that.

To a certain extent.

I'm happy to live in the most developed, humane part of the world, but that's more of a continental trait and not specific to any particular nation. I'm also proud of what Germany has become, although patriotism often has the flaw of being arrogant. What have I personally done to contribute to what the nation has become? Patriotism in 99% of cases is being proud of something upon which one had no effect.

That said, of course I feel affection for country and people, and am happy and proud whenever something good happens to it. As long as it doesn't go into extreme feelings of superiority against all others, it's a perfectly healthy thing.

Although, of course, it can also go into totally absurd territory the way it's practiced in the States, where it's basically become a religion.

I am a partisan in the class struggle, so obviously my answer has to be 'no,' given that patriotism is a kind of secular religion used to dupe people into thinking they have more in common with those who exploit them than they have with other people across national borders that are in their same position.

No, not at all. I don't feel any sense of belonging to a particular nation, only to a planet. Which is kind of douchey and leftist to say, but w/e.
