I'm sure a lot of central Pennsylvania would qualify. Other than that, I don't know.

Yeah... Ok, lets say North of Pennsylvania.  PA sucks anyway.

How about those Baltimore Ravens?  They really did well in the playoffs last year.  And I'm also hearing a lot of hype about the Orioles for 2005.  And didn't the Terps go really far in the NIT?

There aren't very many really conservative areas in the northeast other than Pennsylvania. I'll say Hamilton County, New York, because it is the most Republican (in everything - I'm not just basing this on the 2004 voting results.) But that was only 67% Bush, which isn't all that much.

Keep in mind how much of the state's population lives in the lean social liberal or social liberal counties.

If we ignore PA, it's probably South Boston or one of [historically] Francophone parts of Northern Maine.

Seeing that you live in Maryland I'll take that as a complement. Smiley

Fayette??  IIRC, it voted Kerry.  County must be dirt poor then.  Otherwise it's a fairly accurate map.

Lehigh county? Socially liberal? I'd beg to differ.

One answer Populism. South of Pittsburgh is the base of Populism in Western PA. It's poor and its populist. While it did vote for Kerry, mostly because of economic issues, sorry Flyers but not all Democrats are good little leftists like yourself, but they are very socially conservative. If it was trending the same way West Virginia has over the past few years it would have been a lean Bush county but since it still votes on economic issues, and because the local Democratic party in Fayette county is very strong, it went heavily for Kerry.

Fayette county is very socially conservative...I've spent some time there. Not really a place I want to go back to. They just vote Democrat because it's in the blood.

One of the soldiers on trial in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal is from Uniontown, Fayette county.

Centre County (home of Penn State) is socially conservative?

I'd say the most socially conservative county or town in the Northeast (if we exclude PA) would be somewhere in upstate New York or northern Maine.
