Yo, forumnites.  I've said in the past that we need to do a meetup.  I said that I would be willing to organize said meetup.  I am a man of my word.

First things first: we need a date.  As such, I've created our good friend a doodle, because why not: http://doodle.com/fhycn9k6m9xp8vg6.  I've presumed that weekends before and including Labor Day will be easier for people.  If enough people say otherwise, I'm open to revision of that assumption.

Please sign up if you:
1) Think you're actually interested in a meetup.
2) Can make it to DC.
3) Aren't cowardly enough to that "maybe I'll see if you pick a date if I can make it" nonsense.  Just tick off every date that you don't have a conflict and hit "send" and we'll go from there.

DON'T SIGN UP IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO WASHINGTON, DC.  If folks elsewhere want to organize something elsewhere, you can feel free, but do it on your own time kthx Wink  Use your username for convenience.

If you're around DC, feel free to PM me with suggestions for where we meet!  Presumably, we may have folks from age 13+, so at some point we'll want to be somewhere that's open to anyone... bar hopping (which I strongly approve of) can come later in the night!

I don't think I'll be able to make it this year, though I like the idea and hope we can make this a tradition. I could definitely do it next year.

Can everyone just come to College Park? We can go to Pizza Kingdom or something.

You know, I think I might actually be up for this. I've been interacting with you jerks for the better part of three years, after all.

I might be able to make it to DC or College Park around the 22nd or the weekend after, but I might be able to make it next week.

23rd and 24th are tentative. Depends on what those days are but they aren't convenient for me. Any earlier dates of course I can't do.

I'm thinking I might be able to do this as long as I'm not working that weekend. It's a straight shoot down 95 for me, and eh I would love to meet some of you lady killers in person. Tongue

I'll probably be getting ready for school and helping my girlfriend move that weekend (school starts the Tuesday after Labor Day). Otherwise I would. I don't know why you people are visiting DC in August though, that sounds like a nightmare.

Oh I'll be finished with the bar by then, which means I'll likely be dead.

I'd love to do it, but DC is tough to make when you don't drive or fly.

Ugh.  It's times like this I wish I had gotten my license after I turned sixteen.

EDIT: Actually, there's enough people on here I'm sure I would never want to meet in person.  And I say that as lovingly as possible.

How realistic is a train ride down the Northeast Corridor from Boston?

I'm looking at that right now. What's your personal limit for time spent on a train?

Also, for fairly obvious reasons, I'm much more likely to be available after school starts, but I might be alone in that. I'm not yet sure when exactly I'll get back to the East Coast.

I'm in the same boat.

Doable. It takes about seven to eight hours straight shot and costs $200-$300.

Thanks to Nathan for filling out the form!

The Doodle is to try to find a date.  Nothing's been set.  I have options from next week through Labor Day.  And, yeah, the weather will be terrible, but tough luck.

How realistic is a train ride down the Northeast Corridor from Boston?

It would probably be a relatively okay experience, actually.

Can everyone just come to College Park? We can go to Pizza Kingdom or something.

I mean, there is a high density of Atlasians in College Park Grin  However, I would feel guilty inviting people to America's worst college town.  (Or, at least, the Big Ten's worst college town, though fwiw I've never been to New Brunswick.)

College Park is awful, but either it's just Stockholm syndrome or I'm starting to find it kind of endearing how awful it is. A couple months ago I was in Charlottesville with some friends and we all agreed that yes, Charlottesville would be a much nicer town to live in, but College Park was a much better place to go to school in. College Park isn't sheltered from the outside world; it's real.

No it's not.  It's just as fake as the rest of DC.  It's just fake and also devoid of activities, whereas some pockets of DC are at least fake and intriguing.

Sadly, I've already been to the US this summer and can't afford to go again. I would really love to see an Atlas meetup.

Oh, sorry, I didn't see that my doodle update "conversation" in gmail had 9 replies!  Thanks to Sawx, Mung, and, my personal favorite, "maybe I'll see if you pick a date if I can make it", for your replies.  Right now, the 23rd and 24th are in the lead.  Any other votes?

I have to second this. I'll still try to make it if it's in DC but New York would be a lot easier.
