The Iron Dome, which was built with US taxpayer dollars, really encourages Israel to take a hardline and not negotiate.

So where does this "Israel is the only democracy in the region" line come from?  I keep hearing it.  Did Lebanon cease to exist at some point or something?

Freedom House doesn't consider Lebanon a democracy. However Libya and Turkey are in the general region, and are considered democracies.

Here's a post from someone whose wife was almost killed by Hamas. He opposes what Israel is doing.

From what I understand Israel would rather not have a live captured soldier, so they may have purposefully killed him.

Israeli politics has really been a cesspool since a right-winger assassinated the last decent prime minister.

The rockets can and have reached Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other places not in the low density area around the strip.  Nearly everybody in Israel lives their lives waiting for the next alarm.

And yeah, the Iron Dome is great, but it's not perfect and there are ways to defeat it and you can be sure the bad guys* are working on ways to do just that.

*it is good to have some people on the other side acknowledge that Hamas are, in fact, horrible people....some over there like to freak out when I say "bad guy" as if Hamas isn't full of racist asshole murderers.

Hamas and Likud are both bad guys.
