1945:  Churchill
1950:  Holland
1955:  Eisenhower
1960:  Eisenhower
1965:  Johnson
1970:  Nixon
1975:  Ford
1980:  Thatcher
1985:  Thatcher
1990:  Bush
1995:  Major
2000:  Clinton
2005:  Bush
2010:  Harper

This prompted an idea in my mind, on how many occasions since WWII have the governments of the Anglosphere countries all been controlled by political parties of the same ideology (centre-right, centre-left)?

2000 seems to be the only instance on this list.

2000 seems to be the only instance on this list.

It would not be, as, generally speaking, the term 'liberal' is not a synonym for 'left-wing' outside of the U.S, and John Howard is arguably the most right-wing leader of anyone listed here.

Yeah, outside the US, "liberal" refers to someone who favors free trade and a largely deregulated economy and would be considered in opposition to social democrats and socialists.

The difference is that in the US, our political dynamic is one of socially traditionalist liberals (Republicans) versus socially progressive liberals (Democrats).

1945: Truman (D-USA)
1950: Attlee (Lab-UK)
1955: St. Laurent (Lib-CAN)
1960: Nash (Lab-NZ)

1975: Trudeau (Lib-CAN)
1980: Trudeau (Lib-CAN)

1995: Keating (Lab-AUS)
2000: Clark (Lab-NZ)
2005: Clark (Lab-NZ)
2010: Obama (D-USA)

(That adds up to 5-Canada, 3-Australia, 3-NZ, 2-US, and 1-UK. Extending this to the probable leaders next year, it seems likely that Obama would be my choice for 2015 as well.)
