For all the (correct) outrage at mandatory minimum sentencing, one aspect I find a bit troubling is the fact that laws between neighboring states can be so different from each other.
I'm not sure it can be expected that everyone will know that something that is perfectly legal in their state of residence will get them 3 years in prison just a few miles away. Certainly, if possible, one should inform themselves...but it still seems ridiculous.
