I have always suspected that something similar to Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 (which I read about ironically last week while “Wikipedia surfing”) has occurred.

Since we are conspiracy topics, I also believe that the Oklahoma City bombing was an FBI sting that took on a life of its own, and actually occurred after the FBI lost its ability to follow the suspects. Other than that, I really am not a conspiracy theorist.

...why exactly would the US elect to bomb an American plane in American airspace? And if true, why hasn't anyone come forward with the truth?

That's a problem with a lot of imagined conspiracies; usually, someone or another comes out with the truth. Take Libyan Arab Airlines Flight 1103. After Gaddafi fell the pilots who were imprisoned for "colliding" said they did not and that the plane exploded under them, and both a former ambassador to the US and the airline's former air safety manager say that it was deliberately targeted on Gaddafi's orders. This is normal. Large scale secret plots to murder people generally are obvious.

Actually, the anniversary was on July 17. A very odd and tragic coincidence (and one that does anything but quiet further conspiracy theories).

Even though I was just shy of my 9th birthday, I do remember where I was when it happened. I see no reason not to believe the NTSB report.
