He should be Parker Griffith's running mate instead.

This isn't really relevant to this thread, but there is no better place to discuss it. How do people see Walter Maddox's political future in Alabama playing out. He's been the Mayor of Tuscaloosa since 2005, he's young and handsome, and he's a white Democrat in a state with very few of those. He has also been highly praised for his leadership during the 2011 Tuscaloosa tornado, called "an efficient, earnest, unwavering hero of the storm" by the NYT and awarded Municipal Leader of the Year in 2012.  His background is on education; he served as a field director for the Alabama Education Association, was elected Executive Director of Tuscaloosa Schools, and also served on the City Council.

Tuscaloosa is split between the 4th and 7th congressional district. I'm not sure which one he resides in, but if he's not in the 7th district, he could still probably get away with running for that seat once Sewell retires (that's the one strongly Democratic district in Alabama). Unfortunately I don't see a Democrat winning statewide in Alabama anytime soon, but there's got to be some political future for this guy.

Is he a relative of the infamous Lester Maddox?

Well he did mention the carpetbagger label in his announcement. Tongue Maybe municipal races in Alabama are like they are in Georgia. You only have to live in the jurisdiction for one year in Georgia prior to inauguration to run for municipal office, so maybe he's going to announce his exploratory committee and then move back before the one year preceding inauguration (which if we go by Bobby Bright's inauguration, would be in early November)?
