This would have been tough.  I don't think too highly of LBJ and likely wouldn't have then, but I might have been pretty bitter from the primaries (where I would have supported Rockefeller or Scranton), so I might have stayed home. :/  Terrible election.

Is this the magical fantasyland where Democrats are the real racists and signing the greatest expansion of rights to African-Americans in a century doesn't mean you're for civil rights?

No one brought up the whole party, but given LBJ's history as a Senator and personal quotes, it's not outlandish whatsoever to say that he was very personally racist and pushed the CRA for political reasons...  He also got more help from the opposing party than from his own.
