I guess I was expecting to be truncated by more significant opposition given how far-flung the idea of legalizing incestuous unions might seem to some.

That being said, this is 2014. While causes such as polygamy and marriage between relatives aren't en vogue like gay marriage, they nonetheless are deserving of equal protection and legal recognition. Many people find the idea of incestuous relationships to be "ick", but my motto is UTDINYSTFU.

I'll be happy to post counter arguments in the event that this is met with some opposition.

I'm hesitant about this...it's quite a radical proposal.

I don't really share the sense of activism on this issue that the former Governor and some of my colleagues share for this, but at the same time, I don't really see a reason why it can legally be prevented. I don't think the government can or should legislate on issues of morality.

That said, my own great-great grandparents were related when they were married. Not one of their 11 children from their union suffered any severe mental or physical disabilities (though three died as young children through illnesses). My great-grandmother lived to be 87 and did not have any severe limitation on her faculties, nor has any member of my family suffered developmental disabilities, so I don't know how often such problems arise from those kinds of relationships, but in the case I'm most acquainted with, it didn't.

Indeed! It's even worse when you look at the real life prohibitions on the matter. Fifteen years of prison time for incestuous relations? That's madness.

If this travesty you call the Same Love Act doesn't show how much this board is controlled by pimply faced, immature nerds who have no idea whatever what a relationship is all about, or what love is all about, then nothing will.
