... Does he have a future in national politics? He seems to have that "national politician" gravitas. Having met him and seen him work a room, I can attest to the fact that the man has something special. I attended one of the GOP primary debates (as a Gardner backer), and it was "Perdue and the 6 others". Head and shoulders above the others.

So if Perdue manages to beat Nunn -- especially if he manages to win without a runoff -- does he have a future in national politics?

I'm sure that Perdue will win, but aside from that, Perdue is 64 years old. This means that he'll be 70 years old if he runs for President in 2020, 74 in 2024, and 78 in 2028. All of these are older than Ronald Reagan and Hillary Clinton on their respective election days (both were/will be 69). He could foreseeably serve as Senate Minority/Majority Leader if he becomes popular enough in Georgia and the GOP leadership.

I'm rooting for Michelle Nunn obviously, but Perdue probably doesn't have much of a future outside of the Senate if he wins. That being said, the GOP leadership will probably try to put him forward as an economic spokesperson considering that he's much more palatable than Ted Cruz or Rand Paul.

Perdue's last shot is probably 2020, if ever. But I agree with others that he could be leadership material. If he does a couple of terms, he could end up Minority/Majority Whip. I see a Jon Kyl-like trajectory where he gets burned out by his third term.
