Ted Kennedy was often called the "Lion of the Senate" for his unabashed support of liberal policies, historic legislative accomplishments, and extreme reverence for the history and traditions of the Body.

Are there any Senators today who fit this mold or could be remembered in a similar way by history?

For this poll, I only included the ten most senior Democratic Senators.  I think to call a Republican Senator or a more junior senator a "lion" would be in violation of the true use of the word.

Tom Harkin would be a good candidate, yet I'm hesitant to give him the title because he's leaving the body next January.  Of all the ones of the list, however, he would get my vote.

Sans-Harkin, I feel like the current lion is a woman.  Feinstein's not liberal enough, and Murray's not angry enough.  So that leaves Boxer and Mikulski, which I honestly can't decide between those two?

Y'all's thoughts?

Of these mundane choices, I suppose Leahy and Boxer.

Many will be remembered relatively fondly, but Lion? Nope.

Del Tachi, I served with Ted Kennedy. I knew Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy was a friend of mine. Del Tachi, these Senators are no Ted Kennedy.

Wyden seems like the Democratic Senator most interested in working across party lines to pass legislation, and he's fairly liberal. Idk if he's a "liberal lion," but I could see him as the next great deal-maker.

A little off-topic, but with Harkin, Levin, and Rockefeller all retiring, Leahy will have 12 years on the next most senior Democratic Senators (Mikulski and Reid). There are only a handful of Senators first elected in the 70's or 80's left in either party, and it wouldn't surprise me if all have retired by 2022.

She might be lacking in the tenure department, but Elizabeth Warren is the only thing close to a Lion in the current U.S. Senate.
