The burning pronunciation question

The great pronunciation question: How does one pronounce the letter 'h'? Until recently I assume everyone aspirated the start to make a 'haitch' sound but it seems that we Irish are in the minority in this one.

Aitch and I've actually seen this used as a shibboleth for Irish accents from time to time.

And, being an American, it is always 'Zee' not 'Zed' and 'Zero' not 'Naught.'

My dad pronounces the letter H more like 'atch' (basically "hatch" without the first letter) and I have no idea where he gets that from.

Australians overwhelmingly say "haitch" and it is literally the worst thing in the universe, just edging out toilet paper put on the holder backwards.

If you're especially pedantic you'll discover aitch is in the dictionary. If you try to look up haitch your dictionary will force itself shut in horror, crushing your stupid troll hands.
