Fruitvale Station - get some tissues, the ending is a tear jerker. The rest of the movie has a slow, but intriguing plot. Very much like the Netflix original Bloodline; slow burn plot, a character you know dies from the beginning, great acting, and utilizes its setting excellently.

Arrival - now my favorite sci fi film after Blade Runner and Nerve.

I still hold Interstellar above it, but I saw Arrival last night ... holy moly, it was fantastic.

Hacksaw Ridge is easily my favorite film of the year so far.
That is actually the first movie aside from the annual Dead show that I will see this entire year in the theaters. I'm really excited about that.

Watched Sausage Party on Popcorn Time the other day. It was an abortion. It was literally the type of movie my five year cousin Abby would watch, besides the lesbian taco and the gratuitous use of the F-word.

Hacksaw Ridge was absolutely terrific. I had some doubts about the casting at first.

Andrew Garfield: Didn't really like him in The Amazing Spiderman. Thought his acting was a bit wooden.

Vince Vaughn: Mixed record. For some ungodly reason, I associate him most with that Godawful Psycho remake. Overall, never really too impressed with him.

Luke Bracey: Home and Away. Need I say more?

Teresa Palmer: Local girl to Adelaide; I actually met her a few times before she got famous. Always been rather impressed with her; going all the way back to her first film 2:37.

Sam Worthington: Always been impressed with the guy. Was fantastic in Deadline Gallipoli (I actually played an extra in that)

That said, I was blown away with how well they performed in this film. Garfield and Vaughn in particular blew me away; both were absolutely fantastic in this film. Luke Bracey did extremely well too; hopefully this nets him some exposure in the US.

I loved the film. One of my all-time favourites.

I'm planning on seeing 'Assassin's Creed' as soon as it comes out, and to see if it's as good (or better) as those you-tube movies that players of the game uploaded to the internet.

Watched Brooklyn on HBO. Great performances and craft, but holy moly is that a contrived, aggravating plot based on an extremely forced love triangle with its only conflict based on lack of communication. Those are the absolute worst.

Has anyone here seen 'Loving', a movie depicting the couple that brought down state miscegenation laws with Loving vs. Virginia?

What did you think of it?

I want to see that one

The Muppet Christmas Carol. You can tell Michael Caine is a great actor because he plays a dead-serious, totally convincing Scrooge opposite Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit.

Tora! Tora! Tora! last night.  There were many Pearl Harbor movies on yesterday, and I watched quite a few of them, but that one was the last one and although I had seen it before, I really enjoyed the attention to detail, even though it probably takes some liberties regarding known historical facts.

Last movie in theaters: Allied. It was "ok". Entertaining enough. Can't hold a candle to Hacksaw Ridge

Last movie at home: Bad Santa. Is your grandma... spry?

I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them today and loooved it.  A good chunk of it just felt magical and not just because the movie has magic in it.  I'm so happy I managed to see it which it's still in the theatre.

Helped me forget about how I totally bungled a cute girl flirting with me in the cafe too, which is always nice!

Saw Rogue One, that movie had great cinematography, and very interesting cast of supporting characters.

Just saw Allied today. I liked it for the most part but certain aspects of it inspired me to try to do better in my own World War II spy romance that I'm writing.

I'm really conflicted about Rogue One (note that I absolutely hate The Force Awakens). It has a lot going for it: easily the best visuals of any Star Wars film, guts to make some decisions other Disney/Marvel movies would never make, some incredible scenes in the last third, less fan service than TFA, a gritty and tactile feel (for a Star Wars film anyway)... but holy cow does it have issues. The pacing in the first third-to-half is atrocious (bordering on schizophrenic), most characters are really flat and have shallow-to-non-existent arcs and make bizarre decisions, plus some horrific CGI characters, more forced Marvel-esque humor (although not as much as TFA), more rehashed original trilogy plot elements...

I dunno. I definitely liked it more than TFA... but I'm not sure if I like it or not on balance.

Until very recently I didn't know what Hacksaw Ridge actually was. I assumed based on the title that it was some sort of Wes Craven- or Rob Zombie-style horror flick, and I like horror but not that kind of horror so I didn't have any interest in seeing it. Then all my Catholic friends started talking it up as this incredible drama and I looked it up and found out what it's really about. Shame I missed it.

It's still in the theaters, albeit just barely. We've got one theatre here with one evening showing, and we're hardly a hotbed of cinema here in the Midlands.

Rogue One. Yes it was better than TFA although I enjoyed the latter as well and there were some over the top criticisms of TFA; I had to agree that Starkiller Base in TFA was a bad idea.

Thought Passengers was a perfectly decent (if not great) mainstream sci-fi film. Not sure what the critics were watching.
