Anonymous  Some wonderful performances in this one. The Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship is ultimately unconvincing, but it makes a great film.

Perceval le Gallois,  Rohmer's adaptation of Chretein de Troyes twelfth century Arthurian epic poem.  A unique and beautiful piece of work. See it if you have interest in anything medieval.   It makes me interested to see other films by Eric Rohmer though I don't know that anything else he did at all compares to it.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

great old film, very beautifully done, about a little girl and the struggles of her family.  Elia Kazan's first feature.

Of Mice and Men with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich. Never read the book, but I've heard it's a very faithful adaptation of it, and I believe it.  I can't fauly it at all in terms of its literary  or cinematographic character. At the end of the movie my thought was "dang, that's depressing, and maybe a little messed up."  Overnight and the next day thinking about it I appreciated it more though. It does have its aspects of beauty and tenderness, and is thought provoking about how to protect the things and people that matter in our lives.
