I'm really hoping and praying that I can not only meet their expectations in the first 90 days, but knock their socks off with how well I pick it up and how well I do.  I really need to make this work, because eventually Dad will need to retire.  The projected time for his retirement is only 7 years away, and they've got a car to pay off as well as needing to get their finances ready to drop down to two retirement paychecks.  The sooner I can get off their dole, the better off I and they will be.  I've got a great opportunity to do just that starting in a little under 40 hours.

How old are our parents?

Mom is 61 and Dad is 62.

And seven years from retirement!? Good grief ... what do they do again?

Mom is a retired federal employee and Dad is a technical editor.  He didn't get to his current company until 1999, so he wants to wait until at least 2019 to get a good retirement.

Call me crazy, but when I get back to Tulsa tomorrow afternoon, I am going to hop back in the car and time my route to work without the traffic and then add 15 minutes to account for traffic.  Monday, I have to be at work by 9:00, so I plan to be there by 8:40 and then subtract an hour for every other day after that.

According to www.manta.com my company has been in business since 1970 and employs 10-19 people.

LOL. Well.. that took me all of 3 minutes to find out the company name.
You're a better man than me. Took me closer to 10.

I left Utah almost a year and a half ago specifically to go to school.  I quickly decided on Computer-Aided Drafting and then went full bore into CAD.  So, this job accomplishes the mission that I set out to do 17 1/2 months ago when I headed south on I-15 out of Salt Lake City.  Little did I know I would have to move yet again to Tulsa to find it, but I always had faith that God would provide me a job and not leave me hanging and wondering.  That faith was really being tested and I almost lost it over the past two months, but God brought closure to my mission.

Bushie, what is your current health insurance situation? Do you still get it through your Tribe?

Your income would make you eligible for a heavily subsidized Exchange product that includes subsidized copays and deductibles. You ought to look into that for next year, just to see what your options are.

I still get it through my Tribe where I pay nothing but the gas to get to and from.

You don't pay premiums or copays/deductibles? That's awesome.

Postcolonial Interpretation: Years ago, a white colonist raped a Native woman and forced her to bear a child. And in reward for his actions to spread Anglo-Saxon genetics across the North American continent, his Americanized descendants, woefully ignorant of their Mother language and culture, get free healthcare.

So? Free healthcare is free healthcare. It's not his fault that he needs some tenuous tribal affiliation to access what should be his human right.

Hear hear! I'd use any trick I could in his shoes and I'm glad he does.

Who reimburses Bushie's doctor for his services though?  Is the $ coming from the tribe, or from the state or federal government?

The money comes from the tribe.  Indian tribes are very rich with all the casinos they operate.  When I get my insurance in November, then I will give the doctor's office my insurance information just like I would any other doctor.  The doctor will then bill the insurance, then the tribe will cover the rest instead of me.

So, "when I get my insurance in November"?  Does that mean that your employer will actually be the ones giving you health insurance, but that the tribe pays for all of your copays/deductibles?  Or does the tribe pay for the insurance itself as well?

It will be employer-provided health insurance, but the tribe will cover all of the out-of-pocket expenses.

If your tribe will cover all of your out-of-pocket expenses, you should still check out the Exchange and see if there are better options out there. There may not be, but it couldn't hurt to look into it.

Most employer sponsered health plans still require the employee to contribute something toward the cost of the premiums. If you're happy with the Indian docs and they charge you zero, I'd consider declining the employer plan. Also, if your employer's plan's premium cost is less than 9.5% of your income, you won't be eligible to use the exchange.

I just checked my mail from the weekend and the postal service employment application and testing book did come in.  So, in that regards, the $57 I spent was not a scam.  Of course, that was now I've got this CAD job, so it's a moot point for now, but I did end up getting it.

It was still a scam because it was unnecessary to purchase in order to apply at the post office.

It is a miracle that you found full-time employment. A miracle.

Pray your current employer doesn't do any kind of background check on you.

My background checks always come back squeaky clean.  I welcome him if he wants to conduct one on me.   I'm not scared.

You paid $57 for something available for free. That's a scam.

Anyone can use the Exchanges, but people who can get health insurance through their job can't get subsidies. There are probably some exceptions to that, but I don't remember the specifics.
