Jeff, it is good to have manageable goals but there is no reason that you can't lose 10lbs a month for the first few. Start exercising and eat right. Keep your calories down and don't cheat much. If you must cheat, make sure you earn that but working twice as hard beforehand.
Buy a food scale and track your intake.

I know I should be able to lose 8-10 pounds a month to start, but I'm still going to keep with the 5-6 pounds a month until I figure things out and see first hand what kind of progress I am making.  I reserve the right to make a new goal midway through September if I am losing faster than I anticipated.

Ultimately, it is immaterial but Id be eager to get the lbs. off simply because you feel so much better.  The key thing is that this is a lifetime choice. Don't lose weight and then put it all back like you and so many people have done in the past.  You have to stay dedicated and disciplined. Once you get down to a healthy weight you can cheat more but overall you should consistently eat right and get in exercise.

I was going to go out for a Labor Day brunch tomorrow, but I'm so eager to get my new lifestyle started that I may just have cereal for breakfast, a couple ham sandwiches for lunch, and a sensible dinner.  I really would like to eat in all day tomorrow, especially since I ate out tonight.  I may go get something from the store to fix tomorrow evening.  So, tomorrow's schedule now looks like this:  Bed time at 02:00 am.  Breakfast at 9:30.  Walk at 10:30.  Big Brother at 11:00.  Baseball at 12:00 and 15:00.  Football at 19:00.  Bed time at 22:45.

I'll consider it.  One sandwich usually is not enough.  I'll probably have a light dinner, so there is that.

Just make sure it fits in with part of a larger plan.  It depends on what type of bread and ham. A slice of light rye could be 60 calories each, whereas some rolls or italian bread could be like 250 and way up. Lean sliced ham can be like 30 calories an ounce but a fatty piece 70.  Then you have mayo versus mustard.  These things add up over the course of a day.

It's just regular white sandwich bread and deli ham with mustard and a slice of American cheese.

Hyper-processed white bread and huge amounts of sugar.

Doubtful.  I haven't briefly relaxed in over a week.

Good Monday Morning and Happy Labor Day, folks!  I went to bed at 00:20 and woke up at 08:25.  I am ready to begin this new lifestyle.  I still weigh 283.6 this morning and I'm ready to see that start to drop.  The new lifestyle begins today.  I hesitate to call it a diet, but rather a new lifestyle because it involves more than just dieting.  I will get out there and walk for about 10-15 minutes sometime today, either this morning at 1100 or this evening at halftime of the Miami vs. Louisville game.  I do plan to watch the two baseball games and one football game this afternoon and evening, but I will make sure I get out and walk sometime today.  It won't be a very long walk, but it will be enough to get the legs moving and the heart rate up just a bit.

I just got outside and walked for 10 minutes for a half mile.  It's not much, but again it is a start.  It got my heart rate up for just a bit.  I will walk another 10 minutes tomorrow, then I'll skip Wednesday because of church, but try to walk for 12 minutes on Thursday and Friday.

Can't walk for 10 minutes because of church? Park the car two blocks away and it's done.

Do you always have to find something to gripe about?

I can walk surprisingly fast for someone as big as I am.  I always had to slow down and wait on Allison to catch up to me.  She is a slow walker because of her shape.

Good luck Bushie, I'm really impressed to see how you want to lose weight. I wish the best.

Maybe you should do your diet with Papa, Mama Bushie? That would be easier for you to succeed if other people try to do the same thing?

They don't need to lose weight.  Plus, I am over 100 miles away from them.

I just had an early dinner.  I went to Burger King, but only got a Double Whopper with Cheese with no fries and a coke.  I wanted Diet Dr. Pepper, but it was empty.  Even with the large coke, I still have almost 800 calories left today.  I don't plan on eat much else today, so I should end up just over 1,600 calories on the day.

Edit: That should be 1,500 calories.
