It is hands down the most efficient and painless method of execution. It is also quite cheap as well, certainly far cheaper than lethal injection.

So why on Earth would anyone support the death penalty and not it? Because it "looks bad"?

Either that or just shoot them. Cheaper and more humane.

Yes. And I agree with what sbane wrote in the other thread. If you're going to have barbaric forms of "justice", than make it public so that people see what's happening on their behalf.

No. Hanging should be brought back. The guillotine, quite apart from its unfortunate connotations, is just so... French.

Its not even that particularly humane, as a severed head can maintain consciousness for more than ten seconds.

I am on the fence about the death penalty, but I do support bringing the public hanging back. It will either deter crime or shock people in supporting the abolition of capital punishment. As I change my tune on this issue every other week, I'd be satisfied with either result.

It's certainly more humane than lethal injection

No, if executions really must be carried out the method should be firing squad.

why can't we let the condemned choose his own method?  I'd ask to be loaded up on benzos and opiates and dropped from a commercial airline at 30000 feet.

Shooting is my preferred method, but whatever floats your boat.
