I'm not sure I follow. Is Cuomo not catholic?

Cuomo's political views are antithetical to Catholicism.

^^ That's part of it if course, but unlike most Catholic Dems who at the very least pretend to reconcile their political positions with their faith, Cuomo has unabashedly attacked the Church. Contrast him with someone like Nancy Pelosi, who although she's made her share of logical gymnastics to fit a few of her views with the Church, does outwardly work with the Church.

Also, Cuomo is divorced and openly cohabitating with his girl friend.

lol I'm aware that statement sounded as though I'd just landed from Mars, but incidentally, there was something of a controversy over whether he should be permitted to receive communion, not over abortions (as is often the case with politicians), but for openly living with his girlfriend after divorce.

>implication that Catholic Republicans don't also have to jump through hoops to justify some of their positions

Oh yes, they certainly do. I'm having trouble finding one with the sort of belligerent anger of Cuomo though. Some on here have cited Paul Ryan as an example of a Republican who has taken heat for positions contrary to the Church's teachings at points, but he certainly has a good relationship with the local church leadership and outwardly maintains he believes in its teachings.
