Yup. That's Mark Warner, he loves competitive campaigning and he's damn good at it. Part of me believes he wishes he had a real challenger this year.

I have Mark Warner up winning with around 60% of the vote in my prediction map. While Ed Gillespie would have likely won by an alright margin in Virginia 15-20 years ago, Mark Warner's popularity and the changing demographics of the state make a win for him next to impossible barring any major and unforeseen changes.

But YouGov says Mark Begich has a better chance at winning than him!

I wonder what the Warner/Gillespie map will look like?  I would assume Warner's rural strength is fading but otherwise he performs similarly to 2008.  Perhaps it will be like a 58/40 Obama win in 2012?

I would imagine that Mark Warner would lose Shenandoah County and Amelia County to Ed Gillespie, but other than that the map would look about the same as 2008, give or take Warner's margins of victory in a few counties.

In terms of the campaign and debating, Mark Warner is a talent. Gillespie had no shot.

What will Politico do when everybody stops polling this race, because every polling firm has decided that it's a waste of time and money?

They will do their own poll, and run it with the headline "Totally Impartial Poll: Race Tightening Between Warner and Gillespie"
