Are people seriously claiming that "Satanism" is a legitimate religion? lol

Huh. I know you go out of your way to be an asshole sometimes, but I didn't think you'd stoop so low as to demean other peoples' religions. What other religions are illegitimate in your eyes, O Supreme Judge of the World? Mormonism? Unitarianism? Sikhism?

Do they object to all counseling or just counseling before an abortion? They site a belief that  the "body is inviolable subject to one's own will alone" as their reason for seeking an exemption to required abortion counseling. They also claim having to view informational materials is a violation of their religious freedom and I don't see that one flying.

LeVayan Satanism is nothing but a combination of an Ayn Rand-style personal philosophy and some anti-Christian trolling. I actually agree with Simfan.

No religions are legitimate or illegitimate.

I don't know if it says more about me or you that I genuinely can't tell if you're being serious or not.

No religions are legitimate or illegitimate.

You have a point there; the rich philosophical tradition of Scientology goes back quite a ways...

Hell Scientology is actually a pretty legitimate religion in relation to Satanism. Satanism is as serious a "religion" as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It's nothing but people of a selfish libertarian bent doing anti-Christian trolling.

Treating Satanism as a "religion" would be like allowing hardcore Star Wars fans who want to call themselves "Jedi" and claim "Jedi" as a religion like some did as a joke on the UK Census once to be considered a serious religion.

BRTD is of course absolutely correct. I assume Starwatcher is trolling us here (Alfred obviously is) but there's no such thing as a devout Satanist. The entire 'movement' is religious in the same sense that Snowstalker is a socialist - they have a lot of rhetoric and iconography, but it means nothing. There's no Satanist tradition.

I strenuously object to the unfounded disparagement of pastafarianism. It is as much of a religion, as that strange Jewish cult, insisting on worshiping the fake messiah that so many people here profess.

Let them all be considered religions. It's not the place of the American government to judge what is and what isn't a religion. See the first amendment.

I'm cool with that if we get rid of the tax free status that religious organizations get, because as-is what if the US recognizes Pastafarianism then like the Olive Garden converts to Pastafarianism to avoid paying taxes

I thought the Olive Garden was the Pastafarian analogue of Hell, or at the very least Purgatory.
