Often used as an attempt to "win" an argument.

As if all opinions were created equal....

Ugh.

I mean is the argument about what's better out of Heinz or Hunt's ketchup?  Then it IS just your opinion...  If it's about whether or not the Earth is round, then yes, it'd be a dumb comment.

Depends on the context, but usually horrible.

Its a way to concede an argument. But as Rockefeller said, it depends when its used, whether its used to try and deny facts or if its just certain natural things we like by our genetics. Generally when its used with political arguments though, its terrible.

It's terrible and intellectually lazy but in a strange way also accurate as a response to most truth claims.

It's quite similar to when "freedom of speech" is the only thing someone can use to justify what they just said.

In the vast majority of cases, it's quite possibly the worst phrase ever uttered by man.

Yeah, to say some opinions are "better" than others would mean that there's some sort of objective criteria to use when comparing different opinions.

I still haven't found such criteria.

Once you boil it all down, the phrase "Heinz is better than Hunt's" isn't actually all that different from "Abortion is morally wrong" or "Taxes should be increased on the rich".
