What exactly was Pierre's legacy?
Destroying the reputation of the Liberal Party of Canada for ever amongst its hitherto most loyal supporters (i.e. Francophone Quebecers).
Others would call that "defending a united Canada," but you know... semantics.
This is a tricky one for me. I appreciate the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I appreciate his handling of the October Crisis. I appreciate his strong defense of Canadian unity. On the other hand, I don't have much respect for his political style and Trudeaumania. I honestly don't know much else about what he did in office. Canadian history only ever focuses on the Charter and the War Measures Act, and I haven't cared to look back.
Harper is a slimy politician, but I support the majority of what he's gotten passed while in office. I don't support the lack of transparency or the sheer control he has over his Conservative drones in the House. I go with Harper because he's the devil I know.
