kind of long read on how Turkey (supposedly) gave the bad guys in Syria chemical weapons and some Obama bashing too.  Not sure if it's accurate or not.  It's written by the fella that uncovered the My Lai Massacre and the issues Americans had at Abu Ghraib, so he's got that going for him.

The article talks of "Turkey and Saudi-based chemical facilitators" and mentions an employee of a Turkish export firm who cooperated with a supposed member of the Al-Nusra militia, which is not the same as "Turkey gave the bud guys etcetera".

Actually, the read suggests further implications.

How would you describe the guys involved in the "Abu Ghraib issues"?

The rumors that ISIS is training pilots is great news for the proponents of a no-fly zone, and those who want to get rid of Assad... We will see whether the US are tricked into enforcing this no-fly zone.

There is 0 chance they can get those old Mig 21s up and flying even if they have pilots, fuel, armaments and ground crew (which they probably don't).

(I'm not 100% sure what you're looking for but...)

They have captured some old Syrian Mig 21s, that were probably hanger queens used for parts for other birds.  Probably haven't flown for years because of important missing parts.  Unless it was a super surprise attack they would have just flown the birds to another base.  But even if they captured flyable planes, they still don't have pilots, ground crew, weapons or fuel.  There is rumor that they are training pilots, using old Iraqi pilots as the instructors, and fuel probably isn't that hard to get they still have problem of ill trained pilots operating ancient birds without weapons.  Worst they could accomplish would be some kind of kamikaze mission, but all the good targets for that kind of thing are well protected with AA assets.

So "0 chance" is probably hyperbole, but it's not a serious threat.

Even if ISIS had a fully operational fighter squadron... take your guess how a dogfight between an outdated MiG-21 and a modern F-22 would end, especially with inexperienced pilots in the MiGs.

The real threat is not that ISIS is going to challenge the international coalition air forces. That's ridiculous. They could use the planes in order to mount 9/11-style suicide attacks (of kamikaze, if you want another simile), as the article linked above says.

Beat me to it. Seems Canada is the first Western nation to suffer a serious attack inspired by ISIS.

The US military dropped weapons to the PYD last Sunday in Kobane. Some weapons were also dropped to ISIL by mistake.

Meanwhile, Turkey is allowing Iraqi Kurds to cross its territory to reach Kobane. Syrian and Turkish Kurds are not allowed.

Yeah, there was that shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussels. I guess Canada's the first English-speaking nation to be attacked then.

It does not seem like the guy was in any way related to ISIS. Apparently he never left Canada and was a drug addict living in a homeless shelter.

I read this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/28/magazine/theo-padnos-american-journalist-on-being-kidnapped-tortured-and-released-in-syria.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0 and I found funny the part where the naive foreigner hopes several times that the Free Syrian Army are the good guys who are going to save him, only to find out that every time, they casually hand him over to the Al-Nusra front. He is genuinely puzzled.

I also like the very casual character of this:

Seems President Obama has come to the conclusion (too late) that perhaps he made a mistake not leaving a contingent of American troops in Iraq instead of withdrawing all of them at the end of 2011 -not that he's actually going to admit it in so many words:

Obama plans to double U.S. force in Iraq

There would be marches in the street right now if a Pubby President was sending troops back into Iraq in the exact same scenario.

Baghdadi might be "critically wounded" says Al Arabiya, or even dead says Al-Hadath:
