I hope this backfires. I really do. We need to learn a lesson. I guarentee that when the bombs begin to fall we are going to nail a hospital or a school, and ISIS's ranks will only continue to swell.
You hope this backfires?  WTF is wrong with you?  That's just as bad has hoping the "other" side's President fails.  It's disgusting.  Good things happening (or bad things not happening) is always better than scoring political "points".

The reason these people are being slaughtered in the first place is because we went into Iraq in the first place.
People were being slaughtered in Iraq BEFORE we went in there.  You don't really think everybody got along just fine before Saddam invaded Kuwait do you?  You don't think really think that they got along between the Gulf Wars do you?  Saddam was murdering hundreds of thousands in Iraq.  I don't know why this was forgotten.

I know all about the crimes of the Hussein regime. That doesn't change the fact that it wasn't our problem.
That's an acceptable position to take, but HOPING an attack fails and civilians are killed just to teach your own country a "lesson" is a HORRIBLE thing to think.  I just want you to realize that.

For Christ's sake Starwatcher, fix that image.
It's like people don't know what the preview button is for (or don't care about other posters).

And we'll be on page 4 soon enough.
Or, you know, you could FIX it....geez.  Some people's kids.

To the "you broke it, you own it" folk, how long do we "own" it?  Is it just the US that "owns" it, or do all the nations that joined in on the ass kicking "own" some of it too?

I can understand the US "owing" most of it.....I don't agree with it, at all, but I understand the argument.  It seems are allies should share in that "ownage", but I understand why somebody from one of our allies preaching that the US "owns" it wouldn't want to involve themselves.

...and for how long?

Well, Canada refused to go in Iraq, so we aren't an involved ally
You were clearly an ally.  No, you didn't send any official ground fighting troops, but you did send 3 ships and 100ish officers, some of whom did fight.  From wiki

Sure, but they if you think we have to "fix what we broke", I'd think roughly the percentage of "help" the first time would be a good starting point in the "fixing" part.  Pretty easy to split up sorties.  NATO countries work together all the time, JointOps is standard practice.  We're actually quite good at it.  Better than any multinational forces in history I'd imagine.

Whether we "own" it isn't (or shouldn't) be a consideration. It's a potential humanitarian disaster that's in our power to address, and that makes it our duty to address it.
Agreed in full.

That's a very common "tactic" in sh**t holes.  On one hand, it makes it easier when outsiders have to come in to clean up a mess...on the other hand, it makes them really bad at fighting off rebels.

Hopefully most of them will die, but certainly some are going to try and go ......"home" again.  That's going to be a problem.

I understand the US doesn't get the same kind of Muslim that France, UK and the rest of the western states get....but even considering that, the US numbers are stupidly small.

Also, a recent survey conducted by Metropoll found that only 62.5% of AKP supporters consider Isis a terrorist organization.

We both know than it's more complicated than that.
Sure, but it's still kind of sad that tiny Denmark (1/7th your population) and Australia (2/3rds) is helping so much more than you guys.

Germany has delivered some weapons and military advisors to the Kurds.

That is after they finally managed to get the planes off the ground. Apparently, most of the German Air Force is not in an operational state. Tongue
I just read today that your entire navy has 5 (FIVE!) operational helicopters.  Your old Sea Lynx choppers are falling apart and the delays relating to the NH90 have hurt pretty much every country that got on that train to Dudsville.

Sometimes it's better to just Buy American Wink
