BRTD, you realize that most of these revolts were well to the left of the Bolsheviks, right? Sergei Bertdev probably would have been a loyal Leninist in opposition to the True Leftist hordes.

Your actual question is too broad for me to hit either FF or HP on. The Mensheviks were awful and willingly aligned themselves with fascists and militarists, while some elements of the Left SR and the actual soviets were certainly FF's, and their crushing was the first and biggest step in the degeneration of the USSR into a bureaucratic authoritarian state.

I find it hard to be too sympathetic to the SRs, given that "assassinate the German ambassador and hope that it leads to the Germans invading again" seems like the most counterproductive anti-Bolshevik tactic imaginable.

A mixed bag, to say the least. The Mensheviks were disgusting counterrevolutionary scum and the Left SRs were hellbent on returning to a state of war with the Germans (not exactly a smart move, given you know, the utter devastation of Russia during said war). The only anti-Bolshevik left-wing group I can really speak somewhat favorably of were the various anarchist, anarcho-syndicalist, or anarcho-communist groups that were involved in the Revolution, and even these should obviously be addressed with some nuance, given the circumstances of the war and given the nature of the enemies facing down the young workers' republic.

I mean, no matter what your opinion of the Bolsheviks, from a Russian point of view trying to reenter war with Germany so the German army would occupy Petrograd and chase them out of power is literally treasonous.  Even if you reject the nationalist side of the equation, it's treasonous against the workers  you're trying to protect.

The Left SR's in particular were absolute lunatics, of course. Though it must be noted at this point that the Right SR's were (lol) the clear democratic choice of the Russian people.
