Wait for a Hail Mary, and if not, I guess shoot for a Cabinet position (maybe VA? I could see Hillary nominating her).

A cabinet position is most likely.

Run against Hirono in 2018.

Hopefully become a Republican, as she was labeled by MoveOn.org yesterday.

If Aiona wins Governorship, she'll probably run for Governor in 2018. Hell, she may even primary Ige.

Chillax on the beach. I don't understand these Hawaiians that are working so hard just so that they can go live in DC.

Yeah, I don't think so. She won't have Inouye's dying wish card there, and those that like having a Japanese Buddhist woman as Senator still have no reason to vote for Hanabusa there.

Hawaii's Congressional delegation has changed a lot in the last few years, but it could be stable for a while, which is bad for Hanabusa. In retrospect running for Senate was the worst choice for her out of Senate, Governor, and House.

Eh, I guess she could try to campaign hard for a Cabinet position in a possible Clinton Administration.

However, I can't help but think that she'll just continue to be a thorn in Schatz's side and primary him again in 2016.

What will Colleen Hanabusa do now that she lost the U.S Senate primary?

The race is still too close to call, and you're already assuming she's toast?  Let's wait until a recount (and there will be one -I would certainly call for it) determines the final outcome before we ask what she will do next.

She is toast. The race is over.

Anyways, she'll probably do nothing. She served as a Rep for less than 2 terms so it's not like she was some entrenched politician or anything.

She's trailing by - actually, I'm just going to copy and paste Cinyc's post.

It's hard to see how Hanabusa makes up a 1,635-vote deficit in the two outstanding precincts.  For starters, some of the voters have already cast absentee or early ballots.  Schatz won the absentee and election-day vote in neighboring precincts.  And even if all 8,000 registered voters were to vote, Hanabusa would need to win it 60-40.  If a more realistic 4,000 votes are cast, she'd need to win it 70-30 - a margin she rarely reached in any precinct statewide.

I just see her biding her time for any unlikely opening in Hawaii's congressional delegation or attempting to become part of the next Democratic president's cabinet.

Talking about the next move for a Hawaii Republican seems rather futile. Wink

She was a respected lawyer, so she could easily go back to private practice.

She's in a position to take opportunities to run for statewide office in the next few years. Although not much further than that.

Her resume isn't all that impressive (two years as President of the Hawaii state Senate, four years as a congresswoman when Democrats held the majority) so depending on an appointment doesn't seem like a good strategy.

I think it's rather disrespectful to declare that she "lost" the primary when precincts are scheduled to vote on Friday (Hanabusa has actually filed a lawsuit to delay the election).

I smell shenanigans --- The libs are trying to run her out of the race. Talk about a war on women.

Simple math tells anyone who has looked closely at this race that Hanabusa is toast.  There aren't enough votes left for her to make up a 1,635-vote margin with any reasonable percentage of the vote.  If 4,000 turn out in the missing precincts (which would be a very high number - it's probably lower), Hanabusa would need to garner about 70% of the vote to win.  She hasn't reached 70% anywhere in the state except for two very small precincts that voted absentee-only.  Heck, she didn't even win her own home precinct by that large a margin.

Yes, such a war on women that a woman is polling at 60-70% in the 2016 primary. Meanwhile, there may not even be a woman GOP candidate in 2016, though I suppose none at all is better than Palin/Bachmann.
