I move to waive the minimum debate and cloture requirements and proceed directly to a final vote.

With unanimous consent I move this bill to a final vote; legislators have 48 hours or until all have voted to vote aye, nay or to abstain.

Seems this is no longer necessary. Good work, the bill is dead at the federal level.

You are not a member of the legislature.

Not sure, but it looks like the federal bill is dead, and obviously we don't want to nationalize our regional energy companies in leu of that. Maybe wait until the federal bill is finally declared dead to ensure there is no vote changing? I don't know how long you have before you need to take action.

Veto it and let us redraft it.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I have to admit I find this kind of iffy. I don't know if it would actually work, and the change of ownership would be tumultuous, even though it would not be permanent.

I'd like to see at least some clarification that nothing about the operations of our utilities would change once taken under control of the region.

Also, consider this legislation vetoed.  I'll let the Legislature make the appropriate changes if you guys still want to pass this.

With three votes in favor and one legislator not voting, this bill passes the IDS Legislature and is sent to the Emperor for signature or veto.

To be honest, this was a rushed bill meant more than anything else to be passed and ready before the nationalization occurred. Now that it looks like we have a bit more time I definitely agree that this bill could and should be amended. SJoyce's wording is more concise and relevant; I agree with his suggestion that this bill be vetoed and we adopt something along those lines.

I agree that making it contingent on the federal bill passing is better. Who really knows what will happen with that!

As for redrafting, I'd be fine just adopting SJoyce's amendment, but I'd also be open to expanding from just acting as a counter to the senate bill to include other utilities or businesses that might be targeted.

Why not expand cooperative opportunities to provide competition to utilities and utilize that Smart Grid Act we passed two years ago or so as a means to facilitate it. That will eliminate any justification for nationalization.

The justification for nationalization is that a group of dogmatic ideologists want to do so as a stepping stone for total control of the economy; if the current Senate proposal was based on any kind of need or practicality we wouldn't need to be discussing this here. Your suggestion might make practical sense and could be added as an additional amendment or in another bill, but even if it was implemented nationwide it wouldn't stop the radicals in the Senate from pursuing total nationalization, necessitating our own response.

I agree, my point is that such would resolve existing problems with the system and thus eliminate any such present problems from being used as motivation.

Keep in mind, by the way, that I can easily use my power as Emperor to issue an executive order that would manage any ownership issues with our utilities while simultaneously condemning federal overreach.  Of course, I don't know if the feds would respect executive orders in a similar manner to passed legislation, but as long as the redrafted bill doesn't strain our ability to deal with these problems swiftly, I'm fully on board with its passage.

I, for one, am happy to adopt Sjoyce's amendment wholesale and leave the other questions for future bills. Any objections?
