I believe this legislation is pretty self-explanatory. The intent of this is to honor a man who made tremendous contributions to both the game of baseball, and to the Civil Rights movement. I believe that renaming major highways in the city of Brooklyn in honor of him is the least we can do.

No real problems with this.

I understand the degree of symbolism behind renumbering NY Route 42 but might that not in itself cause some short term confusion? I've never driven through NY so my perspective is a bit uneducated.

Also we should probably include a budget earmark for replacing the signs, even if it's a pittance.

Proposed amendment

To avoid any unnecessary confusion, I think it's best if we avoid renumbering if at all possible. With these changes, I still think we can adequately honor Jackie Robinson's memory while failing to distract drivers.

I will say friendly if amendment 2 is left alone, or reworded. Under the name Jackie Robinson Memorial Expressway the route would still be designated as Interstate 278. I apologize if my wording made it seem unclear.

Yeah, that sounds good.
