Atlas Sexual Morality Poll

I came across the Relationships in America Survey and was curious how Atlas would compare to America at large (and various subsets). Please vote whether you agree or disagree with each of the following statements.

1) Viewing pornographic material is ok.

2) It is a good idea for couples considering marriage to live together in order to decide whether or not they get along well enough to be married to one another.

3) It is ok for two people to get together for sex and not necessarily expect anything further.

4) If a couple has children, they should stay married unless there is physical or emotional abuse.

5) It is sometimes permissible for a married person to have sex with someone other than his/her spouse.

6) It is ok for three or more consenting adults to live together in a sexual/romantic relationship.

7) I support abortion rights.

1) I think viewing pornographic material is not wrong by itself, but on the other hand I disapprove much of the pornographic stuff going around for being sexist and sometimes inducing abusive behavior (gang rape, for instance). Voted agree, even though I'm not a great consumer of porn myself for the reasons stated earlier

4) i don't believe in prolonging dead romantic relationships and think divorced parents must try their best, in order to maintain civilized relations and make their separation less traumatic for the children

Despite my previously firm stance, my answer is "I don't know" to all of the above. In general, most of these sound like bad ideas/precedents to say are acceptable, and that's why the moral position was established in the first place. But I no longer find that it is oh so much worse than recreational drug use. It is definitely harmful for both the individual and society. But I'll take things on a case-by-case basis. I normally can't stand morality takes based on "lack of harm to others". There is a lot to consider here.

Actually, I believe it is immoral to keep extra-marital affairs secret from ones spouse, but not immoral to have an extra-marital affair. If this offends someone, then it says more about the person who was offended by it, than it does about the people who participated in the affair.

What does it say about them?

That they think about sex and marriage in a very regressive and traditionalist manner, and they believe that they have a right to control their spouse as if their spouse was property and not another person.

Depends.
If the other spouse is not aware of it, then I disagree.
But if the other spouse is aware and is OK with it, then fine.

Apparently when I originally answered this poll, I agreed on all except #5. I would probably answer agree to all now, although for 5 I would only agree in a certain circumstances, such as a mutually-agreed open relationship. Agreeing for #4 is totally just my own opinion, and I don't think I would ever really judge someone too hard if they got a divorce while they have children. More just that if I had children and had a less-than-extremely-serious reason to get a divorce, I'd probably just do my best to keep quiet about it until the children were adults and independent for their sakes.
