I seem to be in the minority on number five, but why should we let social mores play such a big role here? The question did not say "without permission." If both of you agree to an open relationship or want to go to a key party, who am I to say that's wrong? You're not hurting anyone by having sex with a person other than your spouse if your spouse is supportive and enthusiastic about it.

Actually, you're right. I misinterpreted the question and assumed it was talking about cheating, not open relationships. The poll won't let me change my answer, but if I could I would change it.

I guess I understand the being a puritan about sex thing, but not living together before marriage just sounds like a profoundly stupid idea to me. You don't even have to sleep in the same bed if you want, but there's no way of knowing you're compatible if you don't live together first.

I said I agreed!

No, you didn't. I think you mixed up questions 2 and 3. Tongue

I didn't realize just how conservative the general populace was on sexual issues. I mean, over two-thirds of the population think porn is immoral? Really?

Remember that is different than thinking it should be illegal.

Yeah, that much was obvious. I just underestimated how anti-porn most people's personal views were.

Agree with all of them, assuming 5 happens with the consent of the other partner.

4) If a couple has children, they should stay married unless there is physical or emotional abuse: Disagree, sometimes relationships can turn so toxic it harms the child.

I guess it's kind of subjective, but I would consider "so toxic it harms the child" to be emotionally abusive.

Is it weird that, despite being mostly pro-choice, I generally think that pro-life posters are less toxic when talking about abortion? Obviously there are expections, but posters like TJ usually sound more reasonable to me than posters on "my" side.

1) Viewing pornographic material is ok.

2) It is a good idea for couples considering marriage to live together in order to decide whether or not they get along well enough to be married to one another.

3) It is ok for two people to get together for sex and not necessarily expect anything further.

4) If a couple has children, they should stay married unless there is physical or emotional abuse.

5) It is sometimes permissible for a married person to have sex with someone other than his/her spouse.

6) It is ok for three or more consenting adults to live together in a sexual/romantic relationship.

7) I support abortion rights.

5. Agree, regardless of how their spouse feels about the subject.

lol wut

I believe that you are not harming your spouse (or anyone for that matter) if you have extra-marital sex with someone other than your spouse. So, of course, it is acceptable.

Yeah, what they don't know won't hurt them, right? Wink

Actually, I believe it is immoral to keep extra-marital affairs secret from ones spouse, but not immoral to have an extra-marital affair. If this offends someone, then it says more about the person who was offended by it, than it does about the people who participated in the affair.

What does it say about them?

That they think about sex and marriage in a very regressive and traditionalist manner, and they believe that they have a right to control their spouse as if their spouse was property and not another person.

So like, if you can just go have sex with whoever you want, what is even the point of getting married?

either parent in that case should have the option to unilaterally put the children up for 3rd party adoption in the process.
I guess we're ignoring this then?

Wow, I missed that. WTF? So, if your spouse doesn't like you they should be able to just put your kid up for adoption? Huh

Wow.... 1, 2, and 3 have fewer Disagrees than 4 and 6. Bad morals, Atlas.

This level of lofty judgement and utter confidence that your traditional morals are better than everyone else's "bad morals" won't actually convince anyone.

If morals aren’t at least somewhat universal, then what’s the point? Do I believe my morals are the best? Yes, that’s why they are my morals...

So you are okay with open relationships, but not unmarried couples living together? Huh
