There is good reason to give local police forces tactical military equipment  - local police forces are in closer proximity to the nation’s infrastructure and will be the first respondents in the case of any terrorist event.

Then why is this military equipment only being used to shoot and kill blacks and protesters?

You can take it to the bank that military equipment that is going unused due to federal budget cuts is being handed out to metropolitan police forces.

You have already made this point, and it was unnecessary to make it again.

I have friends in police tactical units who been bragging over the last 6 months about all the advanced and heavy surplus gear being doled out from the military.

Yeah, unfortunately this is going to extinguish this very quickly. Still, no one will consider the fact that he was (supposedly?) shot seven times. The officer will almost certainly get either paid leave or some type of leave. He'll also receive much more support.

Also, coincidentally enough, the officer who shot Michael Brown just so happens to have the same name as another (black) officer who works with the St.Louis PD.

Darren Wilson is the President of the Ethical Society of Police and has tried to ease racial tensions in the city.

Edit: And I do believe that it is Michael Brown in the video stills, as this still from a video taken of him after he had been shot and killed seems to match the clothing:

It's quite obvious there was a robbery at the store, otherwise why would he be shoving the owner like that? Just for fun? That is even worse. And it's not as if he was underage and couldn't buy those legally. Maybe he didn't have his ID on him and still wanted the cigars, in which case that is even more idiotic.

I read that the store owner only walked out from behind the counter because he was upset that Michael Brown had reached over the counter for his cigars. Perhaps Brown was irritated that he had been called out on this, and was shoved.

In fact, there's a video of Michael Brown actually paying for the cigars, with the cashier visibly handling the money he was given.

There's a video of the Powell shooting on Youtube. I'm not going to link to it but it's there. Having seen it, I can safely say that those police were guilty of murder.

Antonio French said that the cop was justified in shooting Powell. Which, looking at the video, is clearly not correct. Another thing that we're not talking about here is why none of these cops are using their tasers? Do they even have tasers? At least in Ferguson?

One of the production assistants for Tosh.0 was accidentally shot dead by the LAPD after being confused for the suspect of a stabbing rather than another victim.  Of course, this victim was white, so an official apology from the police was quickly released.

Why?

Because it's not necessary to use. It would be like using the f-word instead of just "f[inks]" or "f--k" or whatever. It's not necessary to use that. It doesn't add anything to the point.
