Chicago. NY would be my second choice with LA the distant third. Apart from its roads being a nightmare, Chicago is a pretty nice city with a lot to do and full of soothing Midwesterners Tongue

Chicago, easily. New York next and there is no money that could make me live in LA.

That is exactly what I was going to say, even the "no contest" part.  Though I would like to live in NYC for a couple of years at some point too, but for a place to stay, Chicago is the easy choice.

It's hard to say. Chicago is a non-starter because of the weather, and that's a strong mark against New York as well.

Los Angeles, where I live now Smiley

Easily Chicago, though if I had a lot of money, LA could be nice also. I have a hard time seeing any possible scenario in which New York would be appealing.

Just curious since you formed such a strong opinion on New York through past threads, how often have you been and for how long.  Besides expense what were your other marks.  I remember you being pro mass transit and anti driving.

Yeah, some people talk about how this from biased against Republican, but it's really biased against good weather. Tongue

I have family in Brooklyn. I've been many times over the years. New York is far too intense for my tastes. It attracts the most intense people from all over and then crams them as tightly as possible into tiny little spaces. All that doesn't mean that everybody there is a bad person of course. Nor does it mean that there is nothing good about New York. It has a fascinating history going all the way back to the days of New Amsterdam. It just makes me very anxious to be there. I know it's bad form to use the same word over and over, but Chicago just doesn't have the intensity of New York. I don't know how else to explain it. The benefit of Los Angeles is simply the weather and proximity to mountains.
I wouldn't say that I'm anti-driving except that I think people who commute long distances are crazy. I'm a big believer in living near work. Of course in a city the size of New York, public transit is usually the most convenient option. I would never drive in Manhattan, and would avoid driving in the Outer Boroughs if I could help it. In a city the size of Memphis, driving (and parking) is very easy, and it is transit that is impractical. In short, the best tool depends on the circumstances of the job.

I haven't been to Chicago, but out of LA and NYC, easily New York. It's one of the best places I've visited. I could definitely see myself waking up there every day.

LA. I also like Chicago (being the good Midwest guy that I am)

I don't like the NYC/Phil megaflopalous that much.

1.  New York City       although I'd rather live in Nassau/Suffolk than any of the 5 boroughs

2.  Chicago

3.  Los Angeles
