I thought I would do this since Tallahassee, while a good city, is not near the center of the state, like many capitals. When the state was formed, the vast majority of the population was in northern Florida, so Tallahassee was in the middle of most of the population. But today, of course, most of the population actually lives in southern Florida. I would personally pick Orlando to be the new capital.

I really like Pensacola, however, that literally is basically in Alabama. But Orlando is central, so I voted that way. It also is on the dividing line of Florida, if you will. South of Orlando, the state is more akin to a Northeastern state, while north of Orlando you basically have "the South".

Orlando is pretty much in the middle, but I'd kind of like it to be some random small town in the middle of nowhere, like Okahumpka or Howey in the Hills.

I guess Orlando is perfectly in the middle...
If not Orlando, then maybe Tampa?

Back to where it all began: St. Augustine.  Besides, Orlando is not in the middle of the state as it's out of the way for the panhandle.  Gainesville, Ocala, or Wildwood would all be better choices geographically than Orlando, with Wildwood my preference.

My vote's for Lakeland (or Winter Haven, Lake Wales, etc - something in the Orlampa area). Right in the middle of the population, which correlates with decreased corruption. One of the Polk County cities would also have enough room to build a new capital (unlike, say, downtown Tampa or Orlando) without being the middle of nowhere (ex: Okahumpka).

Miami, of course. Or, for that matter, Havana.

Yes. It was just this spring and here's the FL thread. I was hoping to see some more data-driven responses here than in the IP thread. So far that's not happening, and it's mostly just personal opinions. Other similar threads that lack data in the form of stats or maps or tables have been moved to the IP board. I'm monitoring this one for now.

Ocala

Other choices: Leesburg, Clermont, Lakeland

Gainesville is too far North itself.

Orlando would be worse than leaving it in Tallahassee, it already has enough going on without being the capital as well.

I'd be completely fine with that choice

"Literally is basically". Ugh. This is why people hate us and our language.

But it's funny that in Florida, the South is north and the North is south.

True Federalist said it best: St. Augustine, the original capital.

Orlando. In fact have the capitol building within Walt Disney World.

Does this mean people who work at the capitol have to pay to go to work?

No, but they would have to refer to themselves as cast members. Smiley

Orlando, because as most of you have pointed out already, it is located in the center of the state.

Except it's not.  The area centroid is west of Orlando, in Hernando County, and the population centroid is south of Orlando, in Polk County.  Granted, it is closer to both centroids than Tallahassee is, tho Tallahassee is fairly close to where the population centroid was at the time Tallahassee was chosen to be capital.
