Well, I'm off to work. I'll probably end up voting around 7 PM.

For what it's worth (perhaps not much):

September Surprise (@SeptSurprise) tweeted at 9:09am - 9 Sep 14:

#TeachoutWu is #KillingIt in exit polls on UWS of NYC (https://twitter.com/SeptSurprise/status/509327803717021696)

One would hope they are. If they're not winning the UWS, they're not gonna win anywhere.

Hearing turnout is very low so far in Queens.

I assume that's bad for Teachout/Wu, no?

No, most of the Queens prime voters are going to be older, ethnic white (Jewish, Italian, etc). There are some competitive races in Asian communities that might favor Wu, but I don't think Queens was ever the victory path of Teachout/Wu--Manhattan and Brooklyn are.

The following people were handing out leaflets in Bed-Stuy this morning:

Teachout-Wu (affiliated labor unions, I think)
Wingstop
Jehovah's Witnesses
Furniture discount store
Brazilian Scam Artist Megachurch

But, didn't see any Cuomo-Hochul people.

Interestingly, the leaflet was only about Tim Wu and didn't mention Teachout except in the logo of Teachout/Wu.

Question

Could reports of low turnout be good for Teachout/Wu? I think there's obviously an enthusiasm gap in favor of Teachout/Wu. Does low turnout mean that unions didn't bring out members to endorse Cuomo, or does it mean that Teachout couldn't tap into liberals?

Hard to say for sure.

Mom and government teacher voted for Teachout, if that's any indication of anything.

I had class with Wu today. He seemed upbeat and confident, though less prepared for lecture than usual. Also I'm 99% sure his TA is also his campaign manager.

Nassau will be more Cuomo, so that's good.

I cast ballot #107 in my precinct after lunch. That's higher than the number of votes cast in the same district in last year's contested mayoral primary, FWIW.

e: If Twitter is any indication, turnout remains low across most of the state. I'm seeing a lot of tweets like this one:

I saw on Twitter that Suffolk was reported to be around the same but not sure who reported that. May have been Schwartz as well.

Would low turnout be a good sign for Cuomo?

Probably Teachout because her supporters are much more enthusiastic

hmm... And Cuomo supporters are at their lowest point of enthusiasm. This will be fun Tongue

Until the corruption stuff I was a full Cuomo guy, btw. Now, I just want a fun gubernatorial election in New York, and Teachout could guarantee it.

Anyone know what Teachout might run for in the future, assuming she loses today?

I just voted, and I was the only one there in my precinct. It was totally dead. There were a lot more people voting in the Rangel primary in June.

The Teachout social media stuff is insane. Like compare any result vs. searching Cuomo. A few reporters have pointed this out, but yes, enthusiasm is on Teachout's side.

I got my mother and her friend, both in Suffolk, to go off and vote Teachout/Wu. Did my duty.

I just had a 10 minute conversation with my Uncle and Aunt. I convinced them to vote for Teachout.

I'm doing my duty even from PA.

I can echo the abysmal turnout.  despite voting at what is typically a high-volume hour (5pm) I was the only one there.  one guy may have walked in as I was walking out.

Voted around 5:45, there wasn't really a line per se but there were a few other people there as well.  Was #115 for my precinct, which is higher than I had expected.

And "higher than I expected" is actually not so great here, because a large part of my precinct is Orthodox territory and I'm pretty sure they're not voting Zephyr.

...

Oh, and my Assemblywoman is retiring after 38 years, so there was another important vote to cast. Which, after over an hour of trying to do research, I still don't feel informed enough on. I wish that Streetsblog had given one of their endorsements in my neck of the woods. Tongue

I will add, just as an anecdote, that my GF- who is Jewish- got a mailer from one of the candidates that included some Hebrew lettering and talking about how said candidate would "stand by Israel"... and then promptly decided that was super distasteful and she wouldn't vote for that candidate.  "I'm the wrong type of Jew for this!  Bad targeting!" she sez.

She was less offended by the Hochul mailer focusing on women's issues, but of course voted Teachout/Wu anyway. Smiley

semi-related question: in states with a closed primary is the turnout figure still based on the number of all registered voters or is it the number of people registered in the party?
