semi-related question: in states with a closed primary is the turnout figure still based on the number of all registered voters or is it the number of people registered in the party?

I'd assume the former.

The Teachout social media stuff is insane. Like compare any result vs. searching Cuomo. A few reporters have pointed this out, but yes, enthusiasm is on Teachout's side.

I got my mother and her friend, both in Suffolk, to go off and vote Teachout/Wu. Did my duty.

I just had a 10 minute conversation with my Uncle and Aunt. I convinced them to vote for Teachout.

I'm doing my duty even from PA.

I might have convinced my uncle-in-law's mother to vote for Teachout when I was in NJ. Did I do well?

I would think all registered voters.

I'd imagine so.

It tends to favor esablishment types with higher name recognition.

Higher turnout would suggest that people who don't typically vote in primaries have gone out to the polls.

It could work the other way too - an unusually low turnout might be due to a lack of enthusiasm amongst "typical pro-establishment primary voters" who eventually decided to stay home, unlike the more active and enthusiastic "opposition" supporters.

Convinced three family members (aunt, uncle, and cousin) and one friend in New York to vote Teachout/Wu (to be fair, my Uncle was already a Cuomo/Wu voter, but was concerned about whether Teachout was pro-Israel enough).  I also convinced the aforementioned family members to vote for Koppel instead of Klein.  I've done my part Smiley

BREAKING: Teachout internal done by PPP (and commissioned by Progressive Change Campaign Committee) puts the race at Cuomo 58, Teachout 26. No Hochul-Wu numbers apparently.

That would be a pretty poor result for both Cuomo and Teachout.

The statewide figure is based on all registered voters in Oregon (which has closed primaries): http://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Documents/Voter-Turnout-History-Primary.pdf

You could argue the number is still inflated though considering it's based off of registered voters. A good quarter or even a third of eligible voters in some states aren't even registered to vote.

I voted at 7:45 PM. I was #46 for the day but a black family came in right after me. I was very tempted to ask them who they were voting for but I of course didn't.

You do wonder who the blacks are supporting. Probably Cuomo. I guess we'll find out soon!

Yeah probably. I hope there's an exit poll.

Here's a basic county map from the NYT too: http://elections.nytimes.com/2014/results/primaries/new-york-state

I think Beet actually made a pretty good point earlier when he basically said that this started to feel like a real race too late in the game. I think if Teachout had another couple months to build herself up this could have become very interesting.

As it is, I'll be happy if we can keep Cuomo under 65% and embarrass him a little.

I think we're reading too much into that PCCC. First of all, most of those undecideds are obviously not fans of Cuomo since he is extremely well known. Secondly, it's one poll, one snapshot, in an underpolled primary.

Having said that, I think that if Zephy can get north of 30%, she will have accomplished her goal. 30% is decent. 28%-30% is a wash. Less than 28% is a poor showing.
