After last night's statewide primaries, I think Catherine Hanaway, John Brunner, Jay Ashcroft, Sarah Steelman, Sam Graves can beat McCaskill. Maybe Ann Wagner or former Sen. Jim Talent (who held this seat before McCaskill) could beat her.

Matt Blunt would be a solid contender. Is he considering it?

Assuming his dad wins this year, I'm sure a lot of voters would be skeptical of having a father/son pair Tongue

Dynasties aren't unpopular in Missouri. See: the Carnahans, the Blunts.

Matt Blunt has already beat McCaskill Smiley. As interesting as a father/son pair would be, I'm not sure voters would like that. Maybe, if he wants to reenter politics, he can run for his father's seat when he retires. I'd rather have Ann Wagner run (she's getting ready, apparently). Wagner and Matt Blunt are solid candidates. Also, Jay Ashcroft's father held this seat from 1995 to 2001. I bet if Ashcroft wins the SoS race, he runs for Governor or Senator in the future.

Yea, having two Senator Blunts would be unpopular.

Roy Blunt (2011-)
Matt Blunt (2019-)

I think Hanaway or Steelman could beat McCaskill. Maybe Wagner as well. However, if Hillary Clinton wins, McCaskill may not want to lose reelection in 2018 under an President Hillary Clinton. She may want to be considered for a cabinet position in a Clinton/Kaine administration.

If Clinton nominates McCaskill for a position (Attorney General, Supreme Court, etc.), she could resign her seat and let outgoing Gov. Jay Nixon choose a replacement (maybe Nicole Galloway, the State Auditor, or Robin Carnahan, the former Missouri Secretary of State. Galloway and Carnahan may still be vulnerable as freshmen senators heading into 2018.

Would Nixon himself be interested, if in any case McCaskill does not run for re-election? I think he's still popular enough

Just about anyone. If I was a year older, I might have moved down there and gone after her myself.
