Wait...

...are they saying the US wasn't at least partially built on slavery?

LOL.

Stamping out the myth of "American exceptionalism" for future generations should be a very high educational priority.

Real learning takes place outside of an AP Course, people who are actually curious about things will take the time to research them individually.

I'm shocked at myself for being shocked that they would believe otherwise.

Yes. Manifestations of German, Italian, and Japanese "exceptionalism" became so dangerous that other powers were obliged to obliterate them -- simultaneously.

All too often history is an obscene tale written in the blood of innocent people, and that is no exception with American history. The Atlantic slave trade, slavery itself, the Salem witch trials, the mass murder of First Peoples, Jim Crow, violent suppression of the right to organize labor, race riots,  the Klan in its several incarnations, the internment of Japanese-Americans, McCarthy-era witch hunt, and the My Lai massacre all deserve mention in American history even if they are ugly.  We forget those at the risk of their recurrence in perhaps bloodier and more inexcusable forms.

Roll Eyes Yet another dumb controversy created by the GOP, it's things like this that make me consider going independent.

Hopefully the College Board doesn't cave. I'm not optimistic, considering how whenever Republicans complain about something/someone, that something/someone apologizes 9/10 times.

It's an absurd criticism, sure. But there are drawbacks to teaching only social history. That's basically all they taught where I went to university, and it kinda sucked. I can tell you all about the obscure issues related to the Acadian kitchen and the role of French Maritime women in the home, but I can't say anything about what actually happened in Acadian history.

What changes did they make? I took the AP course, it didn't seem like some revisionist work...?

You'd think the Republican Party would be fond of the College Board, what with its structure as a self-perpetuating monopolistic corporation whose services people must avail themselves of if they wish to get into a decent university.

Seems very revisionist that they only want children to be brainwashed into thinking America's never done anything bad ever.

APUSH never covered military history in-depth on the AP exam, so I don't see why that would be a new criticism.

I don't get what the RNC is thinking when they just create these silly made-up issues.

Acadian political history isn't terribly important, much like political history in general.

Silly controversy. I never took AP classes but have always been very satisfied with my history education, even if I didn't always agree with the perspective.

I hate this use of the word "revision."  There's a reason history is revised...new information comes to light and previous narratives are reconsidered with the additions of new perspectives and in light of subsequent events.  The history of an event taught in 1900 should not be the same as the history of that same event taught in 1950 or 2000 or 2050, changing perspectives due to archaeology, archival research, declassified documents, new historical schools, and more need to be taken into account.  The bold new theory of today is the conventional wisdom of tomorrow is the hidebound reactionary school of the day after tomorrow (hello, Marxist history).

So the GOP now thinks that history has a liberal bias too. Color me unsurprised, especially with the Oldies-types that think math is a vast left-wing conspiracy.

There is a kernel of truth in both interpretations, and yet both are awful oversimplifications.  Any multiple choice test for history that goes beyond dates and places is an exceedingly stupid idea.

Actually, if I recall, the AP US history exam doesn't have any questions with specific dates or war battles. The questions are fairly general and focused on historical trends. That said, it's been a few years.

Didn't you know PPP is a Democratic front group meant to skew the narrative?
