Someone tried to scam me this morning.

There was a new couple in church today. After the service, I went over and said hello. After some small talk they asked me if I wanted to get involved in their "organization" which turned out to be part prosperity gospel, part pyramid scheme.

There was a lot of rhetoric clearly aimed at the fiscally unsophisticated (e.g. "Only 1% of the population makes more than $50k", "You can access secret investments so you can have lots of money in retirement" "Look at our leader's nice house" etc.). I ended the conversation when they told me I could receive special training for $129.99, and they immediately gave the same treatment to my brother in law and his wife.

I looked up the organization online and it's clearly a pyramid scheme, known for using Christian language to scam the faithful. I thought I'd seek the forum's advice on this. What should I do about these people? I'm not entirely sure whether the couple in question are malicious or just being scammed themselves.

At minimum I'll let my pastor/local church networks know so they can be aware of the scam artists, but can I go any further?

Send them down to Oklahoma. They'll hit a payday unlike any they could have ever imagined.

To be honest, I think letting the congregation and pastor know is the best you can do. I have to wonder if they'll be at Church next Sunday.

BRTD is right, these types go church to church. I doubt they'll reappear again regardless of their results.

At the very least, you can tell your pastor.  At most, you can probably report it to legal authorities.  I'm really not sure what the law says on these things, though.
