There certainly aren't any Republicans left as moderate as him. As an independent, he and Chaffee were the two non-Democrats in the Senate to vote against the Iraq war.

RIP... A tragic sign of how far the Republican party has fallen.

While I sort of agree with you, I generally resent these comments coming from Democrats, as if they would have been Republicans back in the day but now just can't because they're too principled and noble.

Anyway, that's taking away from the point here.  Jeffords was a great man who actually did what too many Congressmen now a days don't seem to remember is their job: he represented his constituents.

I probably would have been a Democrat then too... I just prefer the I idea of two competitive parties...

Weren't you a republican when you started posting here??

No, whatever gave you that idea?
