The one who wasn't a war mongering torture apologist and who is a complete progressive who never ever supported right wingers.

Seriously Hitchens was complete filth and not in any way progressive. Just trash, pure trash.

Hitchens at least had some original thoughts. MacFarlane is just a guy who appeals to liberal frat boys.

Seth because he isn't known for it, he just occasionally preaches it in his shows.

In general, I have negative opinions of celebrity atheists who are primarily known for being atheists ... not necessarily because of their beliefs, but because they too often make it seem like the only two choices are getting in line behind Christian fundamentalists or becoming an atheist.  The vast majority of people fall in the middle, not to mention that a large majority of non-religious Americans are NOT atheists, they just don't adhere to an organized religion.  These guys make it seem like if you don't believe the Universe was an accident, you're adhering to mythology.  There are plenty of non-atheists who aren't at all religious.

In Hitchens' defense, I've never quite understood why the Western Left gives Islamism a pass that it isn't willing to give to fundamentalist Christianity, when the former results in terrorism and international wars killing tens of thousands, while the latter has at worst been responsible for stricter abortion laws and aided and abetted right-wing economics. On the face of it, even mainstream "moderate" Islam ought to be utterly abhorrent to anyone who considers themselves a good liberal, but none will offer even a mild critique of it for fear of seeming uncultured and insufficiently cosmopolitan.

Who is giving fundamentalist Islam a free pass?

much of the ideological basis for the US-led invasion of Iraq was Dominionist-Christian, and said invasion was the greatest single act of terror unleashed upon the world since Vietnam/Indochina.

The Hitch, but Seth is my boy, too.

BRTD, which atheist do you have a higher opinion of?  Me, a Hitchens fan, or Hitchens?

Large parts of the European far left and plenty of our Social Liberals.

It's amusing that BRTD thinks he is worthy of having an opinion on Christopher Hitchens, a man way cooler than all this forum combined.

Not that I agreed much with the man on, well, anything really, but that's besides the point.
