Yay, more gridlock and shutdowns, and other forms of political terrorism!

I thought they'd move to abolish the filibuster for legislation after Democrats weakened it with a simple majority last year?

That was only for non-SCOTUS administrative and judicial appointments. It was tactical nuclear warfare more used to destroy formations of soldiers and ships than continents.

Right but it established (recent) precedent to majorly weaken the filibuster with a simple majority vote rather than 3/5s or 2/3s: http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/191255-filibuster-reform-could-have-rippling-effect

So basically they would force the American public to do without basic government services for an indeterminate period of time, all for sake of letting oil and coal companies pollute a little more and ensuring that wealthy people pay as little tax as possible.

Spectacular way to expand the Republican voter coalition.

Maybe he thinks people will be like "these Republicans are total assholes and we don't agree with them on most things. Then again, they are our assholes and they are tough motherers who stand by 100%!" ...just they did with them in 2002 and 2004.

Being the alpha male is kinda a 50/50 proposition.

The chances of a second shutdown are vanishingly slim.

Only hurts the class of Republicans up in 2016. I can't see Ayotte, Kirk, Toomey, Johnson etc. allowing this to happen the Rs can't risk pulling stuff like this with so many vulnerable seats up in 2016. If their dumb enough to shut down the Govt then they've pretty much forfeited the Senate to the Dems in 2016.

The chances of a first shutdown were vanishingly slim until the Republican Party was too scared to tell Ted Cruz to sit down. You think he won't try it again?

The 'looking forward to it' was an expression of looking forward to a Republican Senate majority and the tactics McConnell describes, not to Joe's speculation of what the results of those tactics might be -- a shutdown. I doubt Boehner and McConnell will push it that far, especially with the memory of the results of the 2013 one still fresh.

You'd think the GOP would have learned its lesson, but then again, there were no real consequences for them from last year's shutdown (thanks to the right-wing media).

There were short term consequences. I think that if it weren't for the shutdown, if the media was focused on the Obamacare exchange website fiasco the entire month of October instead of it being in the background the first half of the month and not really coming to the spotlight until the shutdown ended, then Ken Cuccinelli and Mark Obenshain would be the Governor and AG of Virginia. And yes, memory of the shutdown has faded by now, but were it to shut down this fall right before the election, then that would be absolutely disastrous for the GOP.

It's amazing how you need the Republicans to do something crazy to stop the media from spouting right-wing propaganda for a entire month.

Imagine going back in time 40 years, and trying to explain to everyone how there is this epic scandal that in some cases you might have to sign up for health care on the phone instead of online.

You just described the majority of Republican primary voters.
